E-Mails and Traditional Letters
E-mails and Traditional Letters
The E-mails are widely used by people in modern time. At the same time, the traditional letters are forgotten by people gradually. Though most of the people think that the e-mail is much better than the traditional letters, I think that both of them have advantages, but also disadvantages.
It is no doubt that the e-mails are very convenient for people’s life. It makes the instant exchange of information come true. It provides a platform for people all over the world to communicate with each other. It costs much less time and money than the traditional letters. It can send many multimedia data like songs and videos that the traditional letters can’t send. But it also has some disadvantages. Most of the people said that they have received many junk e-mails, which makes them very confused. Also the e-mail makes the personal information let out more easily because of the dangers that the internet causes naturally. Last but not the least, many people think that the e-mail doesn’t have the same milk of human kindness as the traditional letters.
As the same as the e-mail, the traditional letters also have advantages and disadvantages. Compared with other ways of communication, the traditional letters can express feelings more sincerely and they are safer in protecting personal information than the e-mail when they were delivered. Also the people will be expectant when they look forward to the letter in reply and the moment they open the letter they will be very excited. But as the most people believed, the traditional letters also have some disadvantages. They delivered more slowly than the e-mail and they need more money to deliver than the e-mail. When people have some affairs that are very important and urgent, the traditional letters will cause delay in work.
Every coin has two sides. Both of the e-mails and the traditional letters have advantages and disadvantages. Though the e-mail is widely used and it develops quickly, it

As noted in Appendix A-A basic communication model, “the basic communications model is the starting point for analyzing the communications process in terms of the intent of the sender, the needs of the receiver, and the elements of the communications environment” (University of Phoenix, 2009, para. 1). In today’s business one of the most common and widely used forms of communication is e-mail. E-mail sent in a business environment requires a professional vocabulary and tone that is not normally used in personal e-mails yet it still needs to be conversational. According to Nancy Flynn, director of the ePolicy Institute and author of Writing Effective E-mail and E-mail Rules, “the average office worker spends 49 minutes managing e-mail daily, while upper level managers spend up to four hours a day on email” (Mardesich, 2010, guides, para. 3). With so much time spent managing the receipt and sending of e-mails in business it is important that employees understand the basic communication model. Understanding this process when sending e-mails allows employees to communicate more effectively as well as know when to use e-mail, and when another form of communication would be more effective. Any form of communication follows the same basic communication model. E-mail is just a faster and more efficient form of communication. Following is an analysis of three business e-mails using the components of the basic communication process.…

People tend to want to take the easiest, fastest way to communicate, instead of taking a longer more thought-felt approach. Many articles have been written about this very subject. In Ellen Goodman’s article “In Praise of a Snail’s Pace” she says the way we communicate is greatly influenced by the computer and e-mail. When we send an e-mail we tend to write in a fast, concise and somehow unfeeling manner in our rush to be done with the task at hand and move on to our next project. We feel we must adapt to technology at its speed and keep up with it rather than using it at our speed. Goodman argues that when we hand write a letter using “snail-mail”, we tend to be more emotional. By hand writing we use our minds, enabling us to be more thoughtful, caring, and show that we are really concerned about the person we are writing to, not just a check on our to-do list. An example she uses is writing a letter to a friend who has lost her husband where she states “I am among those who still believe that sympathy is diluted by 2/3rds when it arrives over the Internet transom” (48). Goodman asserts that at those times, a letter is the right choice. An e-mail does not express the same care and concern as a hand-written letter. Hand-written notes give a person our time and thoughtful concern. It is so much more human and caring than a fast written, hurriedly sent machine delivered response. Another example Goodman gives is a mother who communicates regularly with her son via e-mail. The mother “has something serious to say and feared that an e-mail would…
