Good evening. Eight years ago, a child was born in Dallas/Fortworth metroplex with just only seven members under the leadership of Mr. Chinedum Eguzouwa our first executive president. Therefore, we encourage you to continue to reapply and on time so as to be among the very first ones to be interviewed. It is worth mentioning that to be considered for admission, you must be married and remain married because our club is built strongly on family values. Alice Walker’s The Welcome Table. I chose this piece of literature because I read her novel The Color Purple when I was in high school, and I really enjoy her writing style. This story also brings back memories of things my family would tell me about how terribly black people were treated during that time period. It makes me sick to think of how people were treated so horribly simply because of the color of their skin.…

Black Student Union has allowed me to get to know a lot about my african culture from our educated discussions to our events. My most important activity was when I had to choreograph a dance for our Black History Month event. The challenge for me was to choreograph a dance from Ghana, however, I did not know anything about the culture. I began researching and found out about the Kpangolo dance of Ghana. This dance represent the pulling of fishnets, the occupation of Ga people. I taught and performed this dance at my school informing others on the Ghanaian…

The theme in a story is associated with an idea that lies behind the story. Every story narrows a broad underlying idea, shapes it in a unique way, and makes the underlying idea concrete. That's how theme is created. In other words, the theme in a story is a representation of the idea behind the story. (Clugston, 2010) This paper will compare and contrast the theme of the stories Country Lovers by Nadine Gordimer and The Welcome Table by Alice Walker.…

Students spend four years of their lives attending high school. Going through high school is mandatory as it prepares them for college and strength to face “the real world.” Having part-time jobs has become the phenomenon among high school students and many students follow this trend as well. Moreover, there are some pros and cons attached with it. Though it may seem like working throughout high school is a bad idea, it could better prepare students for “the real world.” Although some people believe that the primary duty of a student is studying, I am of the opposite position. I strongly support the idea that high school students should work throughout high school. This is because they can earn money, become responsible and get experience.…

Welcome! My name is Sally Student and I am a senior at Thomas Jefferson High School. This portfolio is a representation of my academic progress at Thomas Jefferson over the last four years. I’ve included a list of my achievements, a resume and letters of recommendation, my WASL scores, and high school transcripts in my portfolio. I’ve also included a summary of my plans for after high school and a few of my favorite projects from my years at Thomas Jefferson. While I was at Thomas Jefferson, I enjoyed Drama and English classes and sang in the school’s Concert Choir. I also took two years of Spanish through my school’s foreign language program. Outside of academics, I played tennis for Thomas Jefferson and my tennis partner and I were number one doubles for Thomas Jefferson my senior year. I began volunteering at the local elementary school as a math and reading tutor in my junior year and have since developed a love for working with and teaching elementary school students. This summer I am traveling with my church to Mexico to help build houses for needy families. I think this experience will help me improve my Spanish speaking ability and allow me to interact with people of a different cultural background. I am looking forward to this opportunity to give back and improve the lives of others. After I graduate from Thomas Jefferson, I plan to pursue my love for teaching at Western Washington University in Bellingham where I hope to major in elementary education. I believe that I would make a good teacher because I work well with others and have a knack for inspiring younger children to succeed. I also want to minor in Spanish. This minor and my experience in Mexico will be useful in the classroom. Eventually I would like to be a third grade teacher and help educate future generations of students. The pieces in the portfolio reflect my past achievements and relevant skills. I’m sure…

The Induction Program and Acquaintance Party has been a periodic activity of the society. This opened an opportunity for the members, faculty, and advisers to be acquainted with each other. Singing, eating, playing and conversing as one family bring the tie closer. For this academic year, 2012-2013, the event was conducted last August 11, 2112 at room 201 with the theme: “Mathematics Society: Home for leaders”. It started with the usual opening of any program. Ms. Ruth Lane Botal led the invocation followed by the singing of “Ang Bayan Ko” conducted by Ms. Ella Isabelo. Ms. Harriet Pidlao acknowledged the presence of the participants while Mr. Agustine Lizardo gave the welcome remarks and gave some encouragements to all the members. He included the relation of “reflexive property” in real life situation that made the participant understand the relation between it. he welcomed the participants with the question, “What is your purpose in coming in this affair?” the question gave the participants different reactions while some jokingly answered that they were forced (hoping not). Ms. Jhay Sapdoy read the History of the Mathematics Society. She narrated the events that have been accomplished by the organization since its birth and its ups and downs with special mention to the society’s trademark- the tutorial services. She also mentioned about the society’s best achievement for the year 2011-2012 that is, being the Student organization of the Year.
