Frank Church was established as the Chairman of the Church Committee after a reporter wrote an article in 1974, about the CIA, revealing that they had been destabilizing foreign governments and orchestrating illegal operations against many American citizens. This controversial Committee’s venture was to analyze governmental operations and to investigate alleged illegal activity by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Central Intelligence Agency, and the National Security Agency. Church risked his career when he immersed himself with the Committee. Despite all of the criticism he had to acclimatize himself to, the Committee was relatively successful. At first, many Idahoans loathed Church and did not want him to be part of the Committee and concluded that he was using it as a way to get into the presidency, but when the Committee procured a way to somewhat make the intelligence agencies liable for what they were executing by assembling a new and standing Committee to look at their operations.…

Reverend Parris is the minister of Salem’s church. He is a paranoid, defensive self-absorbed, nervous, and self-pitying figure. He is very concerned with building in his position in the community. He has a slave from Barbados called Tituba. He has a daughter called Betty. He believes that faction plans will force him to leave Salem, so he attempts to strengthen his authority through the witch trial proceedings. The fact that he has many enemies who want him gone from Salem suggests that he is abhorred by many people in the town. Also, he wants to persecute his enemies. He doesn’t want people to find out the truth about what happened in the woods. First of all Parris is greedy. These are some examples of Parris’s greed such as complaining over firewood, insisting on costless golden candlesticks for the church, demanding that he have the accomplishment to the house he lives in.…

There are several threatened aspects which was resulted from Reformation (Bush, 2009). Firstly, the basic beliefs of Christ religion was shocked significantly by these new policies because of rooted faith since childhood. According to Bush (2009), the rebels might be irritated because the government showed no respect for the former religious practices such as the clear distinction between church and state, clergy and laity, soul and body, spiritual matters and temporal ones. Secondly, the Pilgrims' charge of the government's heresy was in the dissolution of religious houses (Bernard, 1998). The wealth and liberty of church was onslaught as well as clergy's right. Thirdly, eviction of the papacy resulted in erosion of pope's position. The Act for the Submission of the Clergy prevented clergies from accomplishing or spreading ecclesiastical laws without the King's permission (Bush, 2009). Therefore, changes of religious policies aroused severe grievance and the desire to fight in defence of the faith and seem to be the most accepted cause in the pilgrimage of…

The Salem witch trials of 1692 caused the deaths of 20 people for suspected witchcraft. With much distress and disturbance of peace in the town, there were few people that had to willingly step up to keep Salem in order. In The Crucible by Arthur Miller, distinct characters take part in the uprising of suspects of witchcraft and the objection of the convictions. A specific character, Reverend John Hale, is an expert in demonic arts and witchcraft. He is also one that provides the acknowledgement to both sides in the play. Reverend Hale is called to Salem to ascertain these reports of witchcraft. As an expert, he is looked upon as a savior to the town. Over the course of Miller’s play, Reverend Hale’s viewpoints on the accusations within the…

As I was born and raised in a Buddhist family, I have always followed and practiced the doctrines and beliefs of Buddhism. Buddhism has become one of the most dominant parts in my life which guides me to a fulfilled spiritual life and proper attitudes towards other beings. Nevertheless, throughout the course about world religions that I am taking, I have decided to experience some festivals and rituals in other religions as the way to get exposed to the cultural diversity of the world. Hence, for my religious service review, I have chosen to study Christianity - one of the most influential and widespread religions. Since I have a friend who is working as social volunteer in Holy Family Catholic Church (1957 Coolidge Street, San Diego, CA 92111), I decided to obtain my realistic approach to Christianity by going to a regular Sunday mass and joining in some youth activities on 11/22/09 to have a deeper and objective comprehension of Christianity.…

    2. Barbara Miller, in her text, Anthropology Matters, defines religious syncretism as elements of tow or more religions that blend together. Miller also states that religious syncretism is most likely to occur when aspects of two religions form a close match with each other. As members of world religions have moved around the globe, religious beliefs and practices have become contextualized and locally specific. The five major world religions that I will be focusing on in this paper as it directly relates to religious syncretism are Hinduism, Buddhism, Christianity, Judaism and Islam.…

The development of the Christian life and message in context with cultural living is not always clear and can be manifested appropriately in a specific cultural context, however but is not always clear with keeping to the Jesus traditions and Christian traditions at less. Christian traditions are built on Jesus traditions; however, where there is man there is error in caring out Christ’ traditions and teachings without personal characteristics interfering with the inerrant word of God. We are not capable on our own to carry out God’s will without the guidance of the Spirit. Some may ask how the life changing and life giving elements of God’s grace and God’s word determine through culture the true perspective and vision of the gospel?2…

The worship in a temple has to satisfy the needs of individuals as also of the community.
