When Sex Sells
We all know that humans are sexual beings. This is a fact used by business owners and advertising companies to their advantage and now that technology becomes more advanced with each passing year, it is now easier for media to creatively put sex in advertisements. I’m not going to talk about using sex and other erotic objects for advertising purposes though. I’m going to talk about sex and other pornographic materials that are actually being used and sold to the public not as advertising materials but as products. Yes, I’m going to talk about pornography and the industry responsible for it.
To tell you the truth, I have intentionally used pornographic materials before but after our group’s report about that topic, it opened my eyes and made me realize how despicable the porn industry is. It is a violent and filthy industry that mostly preys on women, particularly those who were sexually abused as children, who became prostitutes at a young age and wanted to earn more money, and those in poverty who think that there are no other viable ways to earn money, making them enter the industry that would turn them into tools for sexual satisfaction. Let me further explain how stomach-churning this industry is.
The porn industry is so powerful that it can be responsible for some stereotypes regarding men and women when it comes to sex and relationships. Women in the porn industry are seen as nothing more than sexual tools that NEED to be fucked, always want to be fucked, abused, hurt, and used to satisfy men’s desire and fetishes. It makes us believe that even if a woman will turn down a man’s sexual advancements at first, she will eventually give in and let him have sex with her and would even take control after a few minutes of doing sexual acts because like what they say in pornographic videos, she’s a “one horny slut”.
Porn even made it look like it’s alright for people to commit illegal acts like rape and physical/verbal

The increasingly popular obscenities and nudity are infinitely related to the theory of sex sells. It is used to arouse the interest in a particular product, service or brand. The thought process that we follow our primal urges of food and reproduction has been used in advertising for a long time. However, there is also a fine line that can be stepped over and people can be turned off.…

Over the past decade or so the idea and image of sex has become so common place that to see half naked men and women across all types of media from billboards and ads to commercials is no longer a taboo, rather it is the key to marketing. This isn’t always tasteful advertising either most of the time there is very little left to the imagination and you have to stop and wonder what is the point? Where do we draw the line between what is erotic enough to attract attention and where we begin to cross into more adult themed messages? These images however, are meant to create an impression to condition us into thinking that what we see in these ads is what the ideal man or women should look like. In the daily beast article I found online we examine the difference between some of the people who are these flawless beauties yet multiple details of their “flawless” bodies are touched up and photo shopped in very subtle ways. What type of message is the media sending if the images that are supposed to represent perfection aren’t perfect enough?…

Pornography comes in different forms such as pictures, film or writing which stimulates sexual arousal. Child pornography is the deliberate abuse of a minor, it not only destroys Childs self-esteem but it later becomes an issue for society to deal with as well. Children are forced to endure both physical and mental harm. A young mind does not have the capability of understanding that what is happening to them is wrong. The young victims are usually lured into watching explicit materials first by the pedophile, in which it is made to seem as though these acts are acceptable and that “everyone is doing it”.…

As it says in the text above many people may argue that porn is something that encourages the mistreatment of women. In some circumstances I would agree. Some pornography is done forcefully and both parties are not willing. I will fully admit that these types of videos are floating around the internet and it is unfortunate. However, I will also argue that many videos are consensual sex between equal parties and I do not think that this is wrong in anyway. If some people wish to view these types of vidoes, I do believe that they should have the right to view them. Pornography should be regulated as it is to protect the youth of America, however in no way should it be made illegal. This is one example of…

What is the difference between an action and a porn movie? They are both something you can rent, buy , watch , they both come in the same video formats. Thus the key difference that deferentiates pornography is its content – sex. Sex is something that is absolutely normal , and actually is the main drive behind the human evolution. Human beings are aware that except for reproduction, sex is also something that brings pleasure and is one of the basic human needs. Than what defines a pornographic movie is that first of all it is a movie(its format) and second of all it has content (sex). Therefore if movies are morally accepted in the society, and sex itself is also a normal event between two(or more) human beings , combining two “moral” statements should bring us a conclusion that pornography is moral. Pornography is a product of choice. The increased demand for pornographic movies is picturing quite vividly that people choose to watch porn on their own will, and thus there is nothing immoral in it. Pornography as a job is also usually a personal choice and thus in the whole process of creating an adult movie all the parties are willingly consenting to participate , which again is not immoral because every person is entitled to the right of his or her own body.…

When discussing the “XXX” industry, otherwise known as pornography or the adult film industry, people tend to discuss it in hushed tones, or rather not discuss it much at all. When it comes to sex in general, America generally is uncomfortable talking about sex and topics related to it. It should come as no surprise that the porn industry is treated in a similar fashion. Pornography, according to Sullivan, was considered “sexually 'explicit' writings, still or motion pictures and similar products designed to be sexually arousing,” (Sullivan, 2012, pg.321).…

Jean Kilbourne in her article Two Ways a Woman Can Get Hurt says, ” Sex in advertising is pornographic because it dehumanizes and objectifies people, especially women, and because it fetishizes products, imbues them with an erotic charge- which dooms us to disappointment since products never can fulfill our sexual desires or meet our emotional needs" (459).…

In the last one hundred years, advertisers and film directors have gotten lazy in their fields. Even the writers and directors of commercials have started to lose their talent. Have you noticed that whatever product you are looking into, from burgers to perfume, scandalously clad models and actresses crowd the shot, while the actual product is touched or used once or twice? This is due to the idea that’s been sweeping the offices of writers everywhere, that “Sex sells”. A lack of moral values has been polluting our television channels and commercials between shows, and it’s gotten to the point that women are so overly sexualizxed a new mother can’t even feed her infant child in public without unnecessary criticism and insults. In this modern…

It is imperative to understand the theories and perspectives in order to explore the morality or immorality of pornography. Theories that touch on ethics include utilitarianism, deontology as well as ethical egoism just to mention but a few. Ethical theories attempt to explain the rationale behind people’s actions especially when distinguishing what is right or wrong. Analyzed from the perspective of ethics, Pornography, considered the one of the oldest professions, prostitution and other acts of pornography, is an art form that ancient civilizations drew on walls, therefore, considered moral. Specifically,…

"We think that child pornography, in any form, promotes values and sends the message that it is OK to sexually abuse children. It helps paedophiles to justify their ideas or behaviour and it desensitizes society as a whole." ( 1995. John Carr, a United Kingdom government adviser. ) The classification of sexual exploration , the governments laws, and landmark cases all play a part in how the people perceive child pornography.…

    Pornography Leads to Rape

The article Diana E.H. Russell was written in 1998. It begins with the notion that pornography itself is rape. Therefore, porn cannot just have a correlation with rape, porn is actually the cause of it. Russell claimed that people only pay attention to the victims of rape and not the actors and actresses of a pornographic movie. One of her sources she used in her article is testimony from the Commission hearings in Los Angeles. They provide for some compelling evidence that pornography itself can be violent. Directors and producers would make girls do things that they would not want to. Most of Russell’s argument centers on pornography which depicts questionable sexual consent, with very little mention of nonviolent pornography.…
