Tata Steel is one of the world’s largest steel producers. The company provides pre-finished steel building envelopes to the construction industry for use in a wide range of commercial, education, residential and industrial buildings.
In April 2007 Tata Steel launched the world’s first cradle-to-cradle CarbonNeutral® building envelope, called
Confidex Sustain®.

Objectives

Programme developed

To improve awareness of how steel can provide a sustainable solution during the construction, operational use and end-of-life, re-use and recycling phases of a building.

To combine Tata Steel’s reputation for innovation

Tata Steel partnered with The CarbonNeutral
Company and Ecometrica to accurately calculate the greenhouse gas emissions produced over the life-cycle of the product – including manufacture, installation, use, re-use and end-of-life phases.

Using this methodology, every time a Confidex
Sustain® building envelope is constructed, the carbon footprint of the development is calculated.

The footprint is then reduced to net zero through the purchase of carbon offsets from The CarbonNeutral
Company, which meet global carbon offset standards. The offset programme is backed by a robust and fully audited process underpinned by
The CarbonNeutral Protocol.

Tata Steel has worked with key customers to continuously look at future sustainable product developments in terms of the Colorcoat® products; the systems they form part of; the processes which enable their delivery to market and ultimately, how they perform on the buildings themselves.

Sitting cross-legged on the bay window at home, I study my canvas. A toddler sits in her pram, brown curly locks flying in all directions. Her cheeks are dimpled and her smile is gummy. Her hand holds a rattle, but she’s looking at me intently. At first glance, she’s exactly the way I remembered her when I first saw her while vacationing at a hill-station. (something not quite right about this sentence) My eyes linger on hers; the curve seems just right, the pupils a lovely hue of green-yellow, her lashes never-ending. Yet, something is missing. I lean forward with my paintbrush and expertly sprinkle two white dots. And just like that, I've captured her mischievous spirit.…

Half of the materials used in the construction industry come from the earth's crust, producing annually in the field of European Union (EU) 450 million tonnes of construction waste and demolition waste (CDW), that is, more than a quarter of all waste generated. The constantly increasing volume of CDW, with its increasingly complex nature as the range of materials used. This limits the possibilities for reuse and recycling of waste, which currently is only about 28% (in the case of Spain, 5%), which increases the need for landfill sites and to enhance the extraction of First [1].…

The image chosen is a viral picture that had been circulated around the internet so much that the original creator could not be credited. In the picture there is a man who is walking on the side walk. Next to him is a shadow figure turning his head away from a homeless man lying on the ground. In black lettering the picture reads “you” and has an arrow pointed to the visible man walking, and “media” pointing to the shadow that is turning the man’s head. The intended audience is anybody that would be heavily informed by the media, rather it be social media, the news, or radio. The author is trying to convey a message that wakes the audience up and tells them stop letting the media distract them from the bigger problems in their society.…
