Creating the purrfect career, veterinarians may go into all kinds of different practices and studies. They can go into specific animal categories and take care of large animals like cows or even large exotic animals or they can take care of small animals like dogs or cats. It all depends on what size of animal they feel comfortable to work with. Every veterinarian has the same thing in common and it is there extraordinary love and gratitude for animals. Veterinarians are the ones that keep our furry animals healthy and safe, but this is a profession that requires a lot of skill and knowledge of animals.
When he or she graduates from college they may find a job that best suites them. One of the things about having a job are the wages. Earnings for mostly depend on experience, responsibility, and employer. Experienced wages for a vet are usually $47.24 an hour and annually $98,270. On average full-time vets can earn anywhere from $50,000 to $145,000 a year, but the median annual earnings are around $82,000 in the United States. The type of animals they work with can affect the pay role. Vets employed by the government agencies or corporations tend to have higher earnings then those who work in private practices.
If someone is thinking about becoming a veterinarian, they should take as many math and science courses as possible in high school. After high school they must complete at least 2 to 4 years of pre-vet school or science studies before applying for vet school. Once this person is accepted by this vet school, it takes another 4 years of studies to graduate with a veterinarian degree. After someone gets their degree they may need to go to a job and internship for 1 to 2 years. Vets may also need to pass state exams so they can be registered in the state where they wish to practice. Licensing requires having a DVM degree and passing state exams.
