The Morality Of Lying
Have you ever lied to protect someone you were close to? Sometimes lying is okay even though some people think it’s so horrible. Lying is sometimes allowable!
Some may feel that lying is never acceptable, because it’s morally wrong, however, I believe lying is acceptable when it can be used to protect others. Cohen states in article 1 “ If you’re on the way to an awards ceremony, you say, you look fabulous” For example you wouldn’t want to hurt your friends feelings so you would tell them a lie to keep them from misunderstanding. Marianna states in article 4 that “We would pretend to call each other’s homes and be the teacher. For instance, if you would want to protect your friends from getting in trouble you would do anything for them.

What makes a man virtuous? Tara Smith believes that it is honesty that makes a person truly virtuous. Honesty is typically thought of as being the opposite of a lie or the truth. In, “The Metaphysical Case for Honesty” Smith explains how honesty is deeper than just lies versus the truth. Lies are only a small piece of an extensive realm of lying and faking.…

To lie or not to lie? We are often faced with this question when stuck in sticky situations. It seems as if lying is our second nature, and that is not a good thing. In the articles “Brad Blanton: Honestly Tell The Truth” by Barbara Ballinger and “Teens Do Their Share of Lying” by Loretta Ragsdell, the authors discuss lying and argue its’ justifiability. I agree with the concept that lying is never acceptable because it is morally wrong.…

I think it is good that you shouldn't say anything at all instead of lying, but in the book, this is said to be the cruelest type of lies. Stereotypes create lies because a group of people's actions caused bad things to happen. Some lies are straightforward, and purpose is to avoid the truth all together. It's seems that the author believes lying is important in order to not hurt peoples feelings and to be successful and happy. Being dishonest is a cover-up for pain, hurt, guilt, or ignorance. I don't agree with author in something's that she says. It is true that lying may cover up pain, but the truth will always solve the problem.…

The debate over the acceptability of lying is a complicated one. Some feel that it is morally wrong and only ever worsens a situation. Others feel that it is acceptable in cases where feelings could be hurt, or if a person’s self-esteem may be lowered. However, there are instances in which lying happens simply to avoid the consequences of a person’s actions, and most would agree that it is morally wrong. Instead of going back and forth between “lying is wrong” and “lying is okay sometimes,” a better use of our time would be learning to improve our honesty with ourselves and with the people around…

First off let me start of by saying that we lie. We all do. We exaggerate, we leave out things, we avoid confrontation, we try to be inconsideration of other people feelings, we conveniently forget some aspects of the truth and even keep secrets. Like most people, I find myself in situations of small falsehoods and still think of my self of an honest person. Sure I lie, but it’s not really bothering anyone or anything.…

Lying can be used as a way to respond to conflict. I am sure that at least once in your life you have lied about something to protect yourself or someone else. In the story “The Diary of Anne Frank” Anne is a Jewish girl hiding with her family from the Nazis. While in the annex, they have friends who keep their secret by lying about their location so they don’t get caught. (Frank 122-124) Another example would be the book “The Boy In The Striped Pajamas”. The young boy Bruno thinks the concentration camps near his new house are farms, his mother and father refuse to tell him what it actually is. Bruno lies to…

Do you know the last time you told a lie? Everyone lies from time to time, but people don’t always feel justified when telling a lie. If no feelings were hurt in the process what is so wrong with telling a lie every now and then. We lie to people because we don’t want to hurt their feeling. We lie to children to help maintain their innocence. People lie on a daily basis to maintain employment. So are there not times when people should feel justified in lying.…
