Changing the five day school week has been argued for and against due the controversy as to whether or not it would actually be beneficial to students and teachers. When approaching the idea, many people would like to believe that five day school weeks are the most efficient and productive way to educate our youth. What is often overlooked, however, is that it is causing students to dread school more than they already do, and lessen their willingness to be in or attentive at school. Not only this, but many teachers easily get behind on either grading or lesson planning, while the school could actually save money when switching to this schedule. By refreshing the way the school schedule has previously been, we can address the issue of exhausted students who don 't truly learn anything, teachers who are overwhelmed with work and the economic questions within America 's schools. Providing both students and teachers with a more equal week of break and school time by having Wednesdays off will make students more willing to attend school, give the teachers time to furnish their lesson plans and give the school a break in costs.…

Which means students will attend school for 45 days and then get 15 days off. Next, other schools schedules can vary slightly in the number of days attending and days off from school. For example, some schools will do 60-20 or 90-30 days. It means that that kids will go to school for 60 days and get 20 days off or go to school for 90 days and get 30 days off. Lastly, more than 3 million students go to year -round school. The author, Grace Chen, from the passage Year Round vs. Traditional schedules in Public Schools states, “That nearly 3 million K-12 students in the U.S. attend a year-round school.” Which means that more students prefer to go to a year-round school than a traditional school. Although the opponents of the YRE calendar cite their reasons for their viewpoints, many of their opinions seem unfounded or ineffective when looking at empirical data comparing the traditional vs. YRE calendars. In the continuation of my research, I will be looking for more recent reports of information in regards to the effects of YRE calendars, and I will be looking to see how the trends of schools implementing the YRE calendar continues now that the President and Education Secretary have both endorsed the ideas. Additionally, my further research will look for ways this policy may advance itself, including but not limited to, increasing the hours in a school day, dramatically increasing the number of days schools are in session, or even opening schools for remedial sessions on Saturdays, a recent proposal by the Education Secretary. It is I my opinion that it will take a mix of different strategies to strengthen and increase the effectiveness of our education system, and year-round education is just one stepping stone of…
