The Gym

What truly defines a man is what he has to show when the weights of life are coming down. The gym is the place where I go to let off steam, forget about the world, and work towards my dreams. To play football at the next level is my dream and the gym is the gateway to the path that I will travel to get there. Everyone has that one thing they do to keep a sane mind. Whether it’d be painting ,listening to music, or my case going to Anytime fitness . Anytime Fitness is one of the local gyms in my area where i go to sweat, work, and push myself to the limit. This gym has the equipment and tools to take a stressful day and turn it into peace creating a perfect outlet to blow all that stored aggression in one workout. From the first moment i swipe my key fob to enter the Anytime Fitness gym the stress begins to fade away. Once I finish that last drop of pre-workout I know it’s time to begin. When I go in and gather myself warming up stretching releasing thoughts of the world, all stresses that flow in my mind disappear I'm now in my sanctuary .
There are several factors that make this gym so meaningful to me. From the music to the great people a main reason the gym carries deep meaning to me is that I get to train with my brothers everyday. Being in the gym I can just feel the amount of determination in the air. Looking around I can just see the looks on my brothers eyes having the will of steel as they train through the pain and sweat. Coming to this gym everyone there knows what goals they’re are trying to reach and when you are around such positive vibes nothing is unattainable. Everyone is goal oriented here which makes it possible to do the things you never thought you could ever do and reach new limits for yourself. There’s no better feeling than seeing each other grow, pushing each other, and developing getting closer to our goals using that stress from the world as gasoline to fuel our engines of success. Like my old football coach

On the first floor are the basketball courts, racquetball courts, aerobics room, rock wall, and swimming pool. On the second floor there is a track that goes around the basketball courts, a large weight room with the cardio machines next to it, and then a free weights area with a few machines off to the side. The first floor tends to be occupied by groups of people. The first floor provides activates for teams or groups, such as a pick-up game of basketball. The aerobics room attracts mostly women with very few men attending the classes. The second floor tends to be more segregated and separated. The cardio machines are a free for all for both genders but the ellipticals are heavily occupied by women. The weights machines are where almost all of the men spend the majority of their time; very little you will find women working out amongst the men on the weight machines. The free weights off to the side are where women who want to use weights mostly go. It is secluded, if you might not know exactly what you are doing or are not in peak physical condition this area provides a more private setting with less traffic. The layout of the gym provides almost everyone with an area they can go where they feel most comfortable. People in great physical attention tend to be in the areas that are more open while people who are just starting to work out or work on their physical fitness tend to migrate to the areas that are more…

In a way going to the gym is a starting point, its what you do there that defines you. Lifting weights isn’t just being a “meathead” bodybuilding and power lifting almost becomes a science, more so in bodybuilding this rule applies. Bodybuilding is not simple picking things up and putting them down, its a science like I stated earlier this is because as body builders we follow certain rep ranges, certain form, control the tension on the muscle, strict diets, building as much muscle through hypertrophy.…

The sweat lodge is a key healing and spiritual practice of most, if not all, Native American cultures. A variant of the sweat lodge is seen in those cultures from the artic to South America. It can be seen as a form of water therapy as it uses extreme heat and water to produce its effects. Specifically I will explain my personal journey and experience as a participant of a Mohawk sweat lodge. Each tribe has its own unique way of performing the sweat even if they all share the same base upon which to personalise it.…

I have been a member of a gym for as long as I can remember. Even before joining gyms, I started off with calisthenics, doing push-ups, crunches and sit-ups. The hardest part of staying in shape from my experiences is being consistent. Sometimes I might slack off for a month or two, eat anything I want and just get too lazy to work out, but I always get back to staying fit. Better health is a lifestyle thing, and to truly gain any benefits, both in the short and long run, one must change his or her lifestyle. As I get older I realize more of the benefits of staying in shape. The kind of work ethic I started a long time ago when it comes to health management are very useful these days, when I have other important obligations like school, family and work.…

The culture of the gym is slowly coming together just after two days of observations. The gym is primarily a male dominant place to do, but in our college the only area that is completely dominant is the weight lifting area and that’s only during prime hours. Also on the note of personal space there is noticeably a tendency for both male and female to have a certain amount of space around them like a personal bubble.…

A lot of people hear that working out with friends can be more beneficial, more fun, and even more motivating than a solo work out. Those all may be true, but a solo work out in the long run is more beneficial for over all goal achievement because when a person works out alone there is no trying to coincide schedules, or trying to make the time to get together, nor there is figuring out rides if car pooling is involved. The benefits of working out alone may be few, but definitely out weigh the benefits of working out with a friend.…

Over the years, the Hillsborough High School has made Physical Education a mandatory requirment for all students to fulfill each year. Physical Education has been viewed as an essential time for students to develop leadership skills and teamworking skills. Students are also able to develop exercise habits for the future. Furthermore, many still believe that gym can alleviate stress, allow for athletes to be leaders, and it provides a social component which is important for both athletes and non-athletes. Additionally, gym also teaches important topics such as Nutrition, First Aid, CPR, and the Adventure Course (Fanizzi). Although gym may seem beneficial for most students, most athletes do not feel that gym is neccessary for them, as they already receive enough exercise out of school. “Most teenagers believe that with their involvement in high school teams and those who compete regularly on a travel or club team are already receiving enough exercise and should be able to skip out on gym” (“Cresskill High School to Allow Athletes to Skip Gym Class”). Many…
