Vipin Janardanan Roll No: 175 Batch 17 28/1/2012

XAVIER INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

At the completion of my SUPA Project, I feel obliged to express my heartfelt gratitude towards all those who have made this possible. I would like to profoundly thank Fr. Sunny Thomas Uppan, Director, Don Bosco Sneha Bhavan for accepting my request to work as a volunteer with them and also help me throughout the project, guiding me whenever it was necessary. I would also like to thank Mr. Shibin, Manager, staff and residents of Sneha Bhavan Boys’ Home for helping me to work and complete the project. The experience was truly an eye opener for me. I would like to thank Prof. J. Philip, President, XIME for instituting this SUPA Programme which gave us a varied exposure which we had never imagined. I also thank Prof. S.D Thyagraj, Dean, XIME, Dr. Panduranga Rao, Director, XIME and Asst. Prof. Vasanth James for their support and guidance. I am thankful and fortunate enough to work with such dedicated and knowledgeable people who enlightened me about the less privileged. I thank XIME for giving me an opportunity to do such a benevolent activity in my academic life and to serve and understand the way an NGO works. They made me understand the importance of such an activity and constantly encouraged and motivated me to do it. This created the urge within me and made me committed to my project. I also would like to thank my peers from XIME, Rahul Unnikrishnan and Subin Mathew Mammen, who accompanied me for the SUPA for their invaluable support and contributions. Above all I thank almighty god for providing me this chance to see and understand various initiatives taken by noble organisations like Sneha Bhavan for the upliftment of underprivileged children of the society.

“Together we can help the poorest of the poor live a life of dignity, free from poverty.” You can help by; hosting a Caritas Kitchen, gather and host a Caritas Ks, donating to Project Compassion, organising your own fundraising event, or joining a sponsored event. Fundraising is also an opportunity to raise awareness about important issues, and a chance for the community to take part in a social justice action. Everyone who contributes is empowered, and able to stand in solidarity with the people for whom they’re raising funds. All the money raised during these fundraising events is used to provide the poorest of the poor all around the world, with facilities that they previously couldn’t afford. Just $5 can provide a tray of seedlings, so a farmer can diversify the crops they grow in their farm in Fiji, and $930 could provide two adult dairy cows for a farmer so his family can generate a stable source of income in Indonesia. $8500 could construct a borehole that would provide 500 households with access to clean water in Malawi, and $570 could provide two days of training for health centre staff so they can share new knowledge about childhood nutrition with local communities in Cambodia.…

I have seen many students at the high school level walking around with the backpacks I helped make. Overall it may not have been much but knowing I helped out one student really made my day. However this project goes back to the problem of poverty. I not only chose this project just to help people out but for the reason that poverty is a very real subject that most people try to skim over. Poverty occurs in all walks of life and can happen at any time. But it so frequently happens to those who did nothing to deserve it, children. There are so many different types of poverty, however all these types cause many different effects to people, these different types include, generational, situational, absolute, relative, urban and rural poverty. These six different types of poverty take their toll on all sorts of people and can damage children in many different forms. Through the different kinds of poverty, children suffer, whether it be in their education or their homelife, children go through just as much of the poverty cycle as adults. Luckily there are people out there to help protect our…

There were many stories about Sukarno’s status; some said that he was a son of Paku Buwono X, who gave young Sukarno to his trusted nobleman. Some said that he was a son of the owner of Dutch firm in Kediri, East Java, with a maiden. Nevertheless, Sukarno never worried about that.…
