SWOT Analysis I chose to do a SWOT analysis on the business plan of Studio 67 which is a trendy organic medium size restaurant located in Portland, Oregon. SWOT stands for Strength Weakness Opportunities and Threats. The SWOT analysis helps entrepreneurs come up with a strategic plan and determine if a product, service, or business is worth the risk. The SWOT analysis is like a pros and cons list, where strength and opportunities are the pros and weaknesses and threats are the cons. I chose this business plan because it is similar to something that I might want to do in the future. Health food restaurants are what society needs and I plan to contribute to the health of our generation and up coming generations.

SWOT analysis (alternately SLOT analysis) is a strategic planning method used to evaluate the Strengths, Weaknesses/Limitations, Opportunities, and Threats involved in a project or in a business venture. It involves specifying the objective of the business venture or project and identifying the internal and external factors that are favorable and unfavorable to achieve that objective. The technique is credited to Albert Humphrey, who led a convention at Stanford University in the 1960s and 1970s using data from Fortune 500 companies. A SWOT analysis must start with defining a desired end state or objective. A SWOT analysis may be incorporated into the strategic planning model. Strengths: characteristics of the business or team that give it an advantage over others in the industry. Weaknesses (or Limitations): are characteristics that place the firm at a disadvantage relative to others. Opportunities: external chances to make greater sales or profits in the environment. Threats: external elements in the environment that could cause trouble for the business. Identification of SWOTs is essential because subsequent steps in the process of planning for achievement of the selected objective may be derived from the SWOTs. First, the decision makers have to determine whether the objective is attainable, given the SWOTs. If the objective is NOT attainable a different objective must be selected and the process repeated. The SWOT analysis is often used in academia to highlight and identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats.[citation needed] It is particularly helpful in identifying areas for development.[citation needed] Contents [hide]…

SWOT analysis is a structured and planned method that is used to evaluate the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of any business or venture. This analysis can be carried out not just by any business – it can also be carried out by any industry, product, place, or person. The tool collects the information from an environmental analysis and divides it into two categories – 1) internal, comprising of strengths and weaknesses, and 2) external, comprising of opportunities and threats. Once, these factors are analysed, SWOT analysis determines what are the factors and components that are necessary for the fulfilment of the objectives, and the obstacles that have to be overcome, neutralized, or minimized. Solution: SWOT Analysis is a useful technique for understanding your Strengths and Weaknesses, and for identifying both the Opportunities open to you and the Threats you face. What makes SWOT particularly powerful is that, with a little thought, it can help you uncover opportunities that you are well placed to exploit.
