Why Students Should Receive a Study Guide before a Test Teachers should make a study guide of what will be on the upcoming test and hand it out to the students two days before the test. Students should receive a study guide because just in case the teacher didn’t cover a topic in one class, even though the teacher may have covered it in another, the students have a day to ask the teacher to go over that particular topic. If the study guide is given out two days before the test, the student can then look at the study guide the same night and put together any question she may have. Then she can ask that question the next day and still have at least two more times to study that certain area of information. The two more times the student may have to go over the information needed is once at night and once in the morning before school. The teacher does not need to go over the study guide during the class period, unless the teacher feels it is absolutely necessary. The study guides should be specific, but vague at the same time. They should name very important ideas that will be covered on the test exclusively, but still a little vague so that the student must embellish on that particular concept. The study guide should not ask questions; the questions should be saved for the test. They also should not tell students that two things may be linked together, instead have the two or more ideas separate and see if the student knows that they all have a connection with one another. The study guide form should have bullets with enough space in between each concept to give the student enough room to fully complete the idea. If the students receive the study guide two days before the test, they should have enough time to look up all the answers to the concepts and score relatively high on the test.
