As Chinese student, we should go though kindergartens, 6-year primary school, 3-year junior high school, 3-year senior high school, and 4-year undergraduate degree course. As Chinese policy of compulsory education, people should attend school at least nine years, and Don Starr (2012) pointed out that a good teacher must set good moral example to students. So teachers play an indispensable role during the period of leaning and the teaching method is significant, so the strict teaching is one of the ways to academic success. Don Starr (2012,p.17) said that children at the age of 13 should memorise 2600 different characters. So students under strict teaching system can learn more knowledge compared with Western student. Thanks to strict teaching of Chinese teachers who always set accurate and achievable goals to their students. In different stage of learning period, teachers would require students complete different task. Most of Chinese students respect their teachers, and obey what teachers said. Therefore, they can realize goals more effective and efficient. Goal setting focuses their mind, forces them to be specific and manage time reasonable. Besides, Don Starr (2012,p.19) proved Chinese universities often use interview and open-ended questionnaires to look for a good teacher. They attach more attention to the quality of teaching. Good teaching can help students make the basic knowledge foundation better and build up a positive attitude. As we known, attitude is everything; a positive attitude can contribute to academic success. Students can motivate their potential capacity by strict teaching, which can create a great learning atmosphere. Students would study more diligent, so students from Confucian-heritage cultures have advantage over Western students, at least in science and mathematic field and their understanding lever is higher than Western students (Don Starr, 2012). For students from Confucian-heritage culture, strict teaching is the most conducive way to academic success.

In “The Educated Giant” written by Nicholas D. Kristof, he explains why China is likely to over take the United States as the worlds most important country of the century due to its large focus on education. In the article, Kristof talks about his trip to China and the education system he observed. Beginning with peasant schools, he discovered the level of math being taught was equal to his children’s excellent schools in the New York area. While his children won’t learn a language in school until seventh grade, Chinese students begin English as young as first grade. The reason I decided to go to a university in American instead of my own country is because I don’t like the idea of education in China. I went to one of the best high schools in Beijing, which is famous for its extraordinarily high college enrollment rate.
