SWOT

Panasonic Corporation is a worldwide leader in the development and manufacture of electronic products in three business fields: consumer, components & devices, and solutions.

STRENGTHS

Wide product diversification With its four major business domains, Panasonic boats a wide variety of products and services ranging from but not limited to household appliances to AVC (audio, visual and communications) devices.

Well established and reputable company identity The Panasonic Corporation was founded in 1918 and has since been providing excellent products and services to its consumers. Its reputation rests on its high-standards of manufacturing.

Highly recognizable and marketable brand name and image The Panasonic brand has achieved global stature and has become a familiar and trusted brand locally and internationally.
Emphasis on product innovation Panasonic has strived to become one of the leading innovators of electronics. The brand itself has become associated with high-technology and excellent performance.

Eco-friendly solutions and Energy conservation The company is a leading example of contributing proactive and extensive approach to the development of the natural environment by introducing their cutting edge energy-management technologies.

WEAKNESSES

Unstable financial performance The corporation as a whole is often prone to escalating business costs due to frequent restructuring and losses in net sales.

Struggling TV and semiconductors sector Panasonic has experienced a drop in performance in the TV marker as evidenced by a loss in its plasma an LCD TV sales and outputs in its semiconductors.

Poor marketing approach Panasonic is lacking with marketing approach, where they should put more efforts on promoting their products like in media such as social networking, radio, billboards etc. and sponsoring some events which results to low trust and turning new lifestyle

    The story of what became the Panasonic Corporation began in Osaka, Japan in 1918; this was when Konosuke Matsushita invented a revolutionary two-socket light bulb (Duplex Light Bulb). With only 3 employees and himself he produced and sold the light bulbs from his home in Osaka. Matsushita’s idea was so highly regarded he had to rent his neighbour’s house to keep up with demand. In 1992 however Matsushita could not handle the demand from his home any longer, so in 1992 he leased a 230m2 site nearby, completing construction of a factory and office in July. By the end of the year, employees numbered more than 50. Whilst doing this Matsushita continued to research new products and in 1923 he invented a new type of bicycle lamp called the “bullet lamp” due to its bullet like shape (seen in the picture to the right.)(http://panasonic.net/history/corporate/chronicle/1923-01.html). This was a breakthrough in bicycle lamps at the time as many cyclists used oil lanterns as a way of illumination. Although there were some battery powered lights available many of them only last 3-4 hours before running out, Matsushita’s “Bullet Lamp” promised to last ten times that.…
