1. Briefly state what is the purpose of MIL-STD-882B
Ans: This standard provides uniformed requirement for developing and implementing a system safety program of sufficient comprehensiveness to identify the hazards of a system and to impose design requirements and management controls to prevent mishaps by eliminating hazards or reducing the associated risk to a level acceptable to the managing activity (MA). The term “managing activity” usually refers to the Government procuring activity, but may include prime or associate contractors or subcontractors who wish to impose system safety tasks on their suppliers.

Safety is a line responsibility;
Line manager and supervisors are responsible for the safety of their organisation units and operation. This old principle is extremely important in the safety world. This particular fundamental must be understood and accepted by all parts of the organisation. The safety professional’s jobs is to provide the staff support necessary to ensure that the line organisation is able to do its job well and effectively. The system safety effort does not relieve program or project managers or design engineers of their safety responsibilities.
Safety is productive;
Safety is achieved by doing things right the first time, every time. If things are done right the first time, every time, we do not only have the safe operation but also an extremely efficient, productive, cost-effective operation. Because the system safety effort was found to meet the requirement for the first-time safe operation, the system safety effort obviously supports this principle.
