It 's My Life
Bon Jovi

This ain 't a song for the brokenhearted
No silent prayer for the faith departed
And I ain 't gonna be just a face in the crowd
You 're gonna hear my voice when I shout it out loud

[Chorus]
It 's my life
It 's now or never
I ain 't gonna live forever
I just wanna live while I 'm alive

(It 's my life)
My heart is like an open highway
Like Frankie said, "I did it my way"
I just wanna live while I 'm alive 'Cause it 's my life

This is for the ones who stood their ground
For Tommy and Gina who never backed down
Tomorrow 's getting harder, make no mistake
Luck ain 't even lucky, gotta make your own breaks

[Repeat Chorus]

You better stand tall
When they 're calling you out
Don 't bend, don 't break
Baby, don 't back down

[Repeat Chorus]

Analysis:

Based from the structure of the song one could already see that it is actually a poem. The song is divided into five unique stanzas with four lines each (5 quatrains). Moreover, it has a rhyme scheme of aabb cddc ffcc gghh ijhg.

The message of this song is what our generation calls today “YOLO – You Only Live Once”. The first two lines of the song “This ain 't a song for the brokenhearted. No silent prayer for the faith departed” means what it says – that this is not a love song nor a prayer but about being yourself as emphasized by the third and fourth line “And I ain 't gonna be just a face in the crowd. You 're gonna hear my voice when I shout it out loud.” It means that the persona of the poem does not join the crowd or bandwagon, establishing his own identity. Shouting out loud means standing firm on what you believe and not caring about what other people think which was also pointed out by the last quatrain “You better stand tall. When they 're calling you out. Don 't bend, don 't break. Baby, don 't back down.” Digging deeper into that point, it tells us that we should live our life how we want it without worrying about what other people might say. “Like

This poem appears to be in the form of a haiku, a form of Japanese poetry. Five syllables in the first line, seven syllables in the second line, and five syllables again in the last line. The poem is closest to be compared to a haiku rather than a sonnet or a sestina. There are three stanzas and eight lines in each stanza.…

Till it´s gone Robert Crumb born in Philadelphia 1943 (73 year), also called R. Crumb, has made 1992: short history of America, which is a colorful short cartoon about America throughout the past years. The pictures remind me of a song called "Don´t know what you got, till it´s gone” because, in the comic strip the wonderful nature is destroyed, and eventually the people who lived there have planted trees which I think is a sign that when we destroyed nature, we realized what we had lost, and regretted it. Industry is a big success for the world, but at the end, people will long for the past. “Don´t know what you got till it´s gone Don´t know what it is I did so wrong…

“Slaveship,” by Lucille Clifton, is a free verse poem from the perspective of slaves that the white men capture and trade in the slave trade, forcing them to travel on the Middle Passage. Ironically, the ships bear the names of religious symbols and figures such as Jesus, Angel of God, and Grace of God (lines 14-15) even though the act of slavery is one of the most sinful systems in the eyes of these slaves and in the eyes of all decent human beings.…

In comparison to other poems this is a lot of lines per stanza, for example “Ode to Uluru” by Michelle Williams has 4 lines in the first 4 stanzas. So what language does the poem use? The poet has used a lot of repetition. This is when you repeat words and phrases to give them emphasis, it can also be used as part of the musical pattern of a poem. She uses repetition to push her point for example she says the word “now” a lot and it is referring to how so much is different now to how it was then.…

The poem is divided into eight stanzas with each stanza containing four lines (quatrain). Each stanza has an identical rhyme scheme (abcb). The poem is written mostly in iambic tetrameter, though some of the feet actually transition from an iamb to a trochee and back. For example, the second line of the third stanza is a trochee when the daughter says, “Other children will go with me,” obviously referring to the Freedom March. The poem is written in the third person.…

Take a minute to imagine “Men looking like they had been/attacked repeatedly by a succession /of wild animals,” “never/ ending blasted field of corpses,” and “throats half gone, /eyes bleeding, raw meat heaped/ in piles.” These are the vividly, grotesque images Edward Mayes describes to readers in his poem, “University of Iowa Hospital, 1976.” Before even reading the poem, the title gave me a preconceived idea of what the poem might be about. “University of Iowa Hospital, 1976” describes what an extreme version of what I expected the poem to be about. The images I described above are just some of the horrifying scenes described by Mayes. This poem spoke to me about the pain and suffering patients endure while staying in a hospital (whether it be a mental hospital or a medical hospital) and the horrific images the staff see daily. Mayes uses several types of imagery and literary tropes in his poem to give readers an intense visual sensation as they read his poem. The visuals Mayes placed in my own mind while I read this poem were intensely real and stuck with me long after I studied the poem.…

In this era of increasing emphasis on art, more and more people start learning about some arts, one of the famous art activity is to sing a song. For me, it’s not like a hobby, it’s more like a part of my life. So I choose one of my favorite song to express myself.in the song, there are many figurative languages, for example, there have repetition, simile and rhyme. first of all, there are many repetitions in this song, repetition means the act of repeating, or doing, saying, or writing something again; repeated action, performance, production, or presentation. in my opinion, if you repeat some words over and over, it can show your strong feeling, you want to tell others or yourself something.…

Poems, like stories and novels, often have themes and ideas that are expressed. In the two poems I read, de los Santos’ “Perfect Dress” and Hoagland’s “Beauty”, it is apparent that great thought was put into themes of beauty and into the ideas and opinions behind it. Through analyzation of these two poems I will collectively share the opinions and uncover perhaps previously unrealized perspectives that perhaps is not originally apparent…

I chose the song “Started from the bottom” by Drake as an example of poetic language in song. In the lyrics there is a reoccurring theme of how Drake (Aubrey Drake Graham) is implying how he came up with nothing, but now is living the dream. Being a young successful, rich, and popular young artist. The theme of the song is if you work hard for your dreams they will come true. Drake mentions in several lines about the late nights he would work as a teen and then focus on his music after. He experienced much doubt in the people around him and was told he couldn’t make it as a rapper. The hook at the end of the song he pretty much tells the fake friends that want to be apart of his life now that is famous to screw off, and he only associates with the crew that stuck by his side even when he wasn’t big.…

These challenges have proved to me that if my family and I come together as a united front we will be stronger as we lean on each other and move forward together. Additionally as much as we have been taught to be compassionate and nurture one another this songs’ vibe portrays to me that it is innate to take care of the people who surround us. It is through loved ones, education, and relationships that I have become the best version of myself. Middle school is yet another step in discovering who I am, but I do know I want to surround myself with others who offer me the love and support I…

This song sheds light on the ways in which a parent truly loves their child. Not only do we want to teach our children the correct way to live but we also need to show them by ‘practicing what we preach’. In the first and second lines of the song, we are introduced to the supernatural and all powerful protection that a parent wants for their child. He says “May the good Lord be with you, down every road that you roam”, I feel that by including a religious stand in the lyrics that the writer is giving all his faith and hope to a higher power in order to protect his child through all paths in life. As parents we are not always able to be there for our children and by giving power over to a higher being, I feel that we are given a sense of security and comfort. Knowing that someone or something is always watching over and standing beside our child is an added protection in addition to our parental protection. This is not the only religious reference included in the lyrics. In the third stanza, second to last line, Rod says…
