Son Of Neptune Book Report

The book I read was Son of Neptune, by Rick Riordan. It was 513 pages long. The setting of the book Son of Neptune primarily took place in Camp Jupiter in California. The book says, "The geography could've been anywhere in northern California." An example showing that it took place in Camp Jupiter is, "Thank you, Percy Jackson, for bringing me to Camp Jupiter."It is a camp for Roman demigods and it is basically New Rome. Demigods have one parent a human and another parent a Roman God. The minor setting is Alaska because three kids from Camp Jupiter have go on a quest to Alaska. Another minor setting is Canada because the three kids go on foot to Alaska, and they have to pass through Canada to get to Alaska. Octavian read," Go through Canada to Alaska." The story took place in 2011. The setting is so imperative to the story because

This is because he was raised that way from going to Camp Jupiter in California. Percy was fighting people to protect Frank and Hazel. Hazel said, "Part of their problem was Percy. He fought like a demon, whirling through the defender's ranks in a completely unorthodox style, rolling under their feet, slashing with his sword instead of stabbing like a Roman would, whacking campers with the flat of his blade, and generally causing mass panic.” If the story had a different setting, then Percy would have been raised differently, certainly with different morals. If this did occur, then Percy might not have risked his life for Frank and Hazel, and they might have died.

Percy Jackson is the main protagonist of the last Olympian. Percy isn’t greed at because he turned down god hood. “Oh, not you although I suppose I should wonder turning down immorality” (Riordan, 355) after defeating Kronos he was given a offer to be a god. He is also funny “With great power... comes great need to take a nap. Wake me up later”. Making funny remark and one liner makes him a funny character in general, this funny one liner was said after he obtained the curse of Achilles and they were outside the underworld. Percy is also caring for his friends and he would do anything to protect them. Instead of simply being gifted with magic, Percy is the son of a Greek God. His friends aren’t mere mortals with spell books. They are Annabeth, the daughter of Athena, and Grover, a satyr. The section of school that hates him isn’t the old home of the series’ big evil, but the most competitive section of students, the children of the God of War, Ares. And instead of Quidditch, Percy finds himself participating in a chariot race. The world of The Lightning Thief brings Greek mythology into the modern world. Who knew that Mount Olympus was located on floor 1000 of the Empire State Building? Or that the Greek gods are responsible for the spread of Western civilization? Unbeknownst to us, we walk among monsters who scour the Earth hoping to find the children of Gods before the Gods do in order to eliminate their competition.…

In “The Loss of the Creature,” Percy focuses on how one perceives something before actually witnessing it based on the opinions of others. The value of the place or idea is already preconceived due to the fact that we are so caught up in time that we overlook the entire experience as a whole. Or being that we are so focused on the option on an object from someone else, we miss the whole concept or what it’s true meaning or “beauty” as Percy state’s is. We lose the ability to make our own decisions because we base them off of someone else’s viewpoints. Using an example of a movie that I experienced shows Percy’s point.…

I have finished reading the novel Bad Science written by Ben Goldacre, and I thought that the novel was absolutely brilliant. It is a nonfiction work of popular science, and if people were to read the novel with an open mind they would realize that this novel has the potential to change their perspective of the world for the better. Within the novel, four ideas were brought up that particularly had interested me. The detox phenomenon, placebo explanations, vaccine scares, and the social influences put upon consumers. These all interested me and with some of these ideas I learned countless new concepts.…

Meeting a monster is one way how Percy is a hero. Percy is in the museum with Mrs.Dodds and she starts saying strange things to Percy. Suddenly, she shifts into a monster. “She wasn’t human. She was a shriveled hag with bat wings and claws and a mouth full of yellow fangs, and she was about to slice me to ribbons.” (Riordan 12) This supports Percy meeting a monster because the quote says Mrs.Dodds was not human. Then, the quote describes Mrs.Dodds with things monsters have like bat wings and yellow…

Hunger, whether a literal hunger or a hunger for power has always been a downfall for humankind. In the Odyssey hunger destroys the lives of many men. Even though the Odyssey is just an epic it reflects in many ways how hunger can ruin and sometimes even destroy someone’s life. In history, hunger has shown itself in many different and unique ways. For example Hitler’s hunger for power destroyed millions of lives. It forced millions of people to move their homes and change their lives or to even lose their lives. Hunger has caused people and even entire nations to be decimated. If people could control there hunger the world and its people would be a safer and happier place. In this epic hunger rules all.…

The first book I decided to read this summer was The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury. This book was first published in 1946. However, it is set in the distant future, as many of his novels are. Bradbury begins his novel in January of 2030 in Ohio where a rocket is launched into space heading for Mars. In the following month on Mars, a Martian named Ylla begins having strange dreams about a rocket from Earth landing on her planet and a strange creature named Nathaniel York emerging from it. Ylla’s dreams come true, and the men from Earth finally land on Mars, but her husband shoots them all. The next expedition from Earth lands in August 2030, this time carrying three men who are led by Captain Williams. They explore the civilization and…
