Percy is not just like Perseus because their names sound alike. They are alike in other ways as well. Like Perseus, Percy was saved because he had a god watching over him. In “ The Great Heroes Before the Trojan War” it says, “ But Perseus was saved from his folly. Two great gods were watching over him.”(Hamilton 145). This same thing happened to Percy when he was battling Anabeth. She had beaten him up pretty badly and Percy had lay there…

In the story, Percy starts out to be a troubled kid to humans but actually, acts that way because he’s half-blood. For example, Percy has dyslexia because it's mine is hardwired to ancient Greek instead of English, and his ADHD so he can be impulsive during a battle to stay alive and his senses too. In ancient Greek myth, Perseus and his mother Danae were exiled after Danae’s father, King Akrisios, found out that Danae had been impregnated by Zeus. After finding refuge in Seriphos with Diktys, a fisherman, Danae was pursued by King Polydektes, ruler of Seriphos. In love with Danae, Polydektes “schemed to get rid of the now grown-up Perseus.” The Riordan equivalent to King Polydektes would be Gabe Ugliano, Percy’s stepfather who is constantly playing poker, whom Percy nicknamed “Smelly Gabe” and describes as “nice the first thirty seconds we knew him, then showed his true colors as a world-class jerk.” While Gabe may not be in pursuit of Sally Jackson, Percy’s mother, in the same way that Polydektes was, Gabe still attempts to push Percy out of the household in other ways, like sending Percy away to boarding school and turning Percy’s bedroom into a storage place for his own possessions. Furthermore, in the ancient myth of Perseus, after returning to Seriphos from his quest, he discovers that his mother Danae had taken refuge from Polydektes’ violence. Angered by this, Perseus uses the decapitated Medusa head to petrify Polydektes. After returning home to New York City after his own quest, Percy realizes that Gabe had been physically abusing Percy’s mom Sally. After the instance that Percy…

Once stated by Edith Hamilton, the author of the original myth “Perseus”, “The fullness of life is in the hazards of life.” (Hamilton). Meaning that you aren’t living unless you are truly face to face with death and risk. You are on edge and not cooped up afraid of going for something. And that is exactly what Perseus and Percy Jackson, two heroic figures, live up to. To that extent, “Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief” by Rick Riordan transforms the ancient legend of “Perseus” in a compelling, entertaining, and imaginative way through it’s craftsmanship of modernization, sequence of events, characters, and themes. The way in which the innovative retelling captures an audience is a direct statement of it’s creative remake based off the concrete foundation of the original copy produced centuries ago. Utmost, is the way in which the things of the past (a.k.a.-weapons, methods of communication, routine behaviors, etc.) were made present to fit in today's generation is quite an…

Instead of simply being gifted with magic, Percy is the son of a Greek God. His friends aren’t mere mortals with spell books. They are Annabeth, the daughter of Athena, and Grover, a satyr. The section of school that hates him isn’t the old home of the series’ big evil, but the most competitive section of students, the children of the God of War, Ares. And instead of Quidditch, Percy finds himself participating in a chariot race. The world of The Lightning Thief brings Greek mythology into the modern world. Who knew that Mount Olympus was located on floor 1000 of the Empire State Building? Or that the Greek gods are responsible for the spread of Western civilization? Unbeknownst to us, we walk among monsters who scour the Earth hoping to find the children of Gods before the Gods do in order to eliminate their competition.…

The next day, Mister Percy called all the servants down to alert us that a small sum of money had been stolen and to “warn” us that he’d teach us a lesson from stealing from him by selling the thief. I was terrified even though I hadn’t committed the crime that I had been accused of. I went to bed that night but couldn’t sleep with the thought in the back of my mind that my son could grow up to be sold down the river. I knew what I had to do. It was one of the hardest choices I had to make, there was no other option.…

Everyone is great in their own way, even those who may not realize it or appreciate it. In the end, your worth will show in some way. In the book, The Lightning Thief, I thought I that it was about a boy named Percy who has dyslexia and ADHD that always gets into trouble. Then, Percy learns that his dad is the sea god Poseidon. Afterwards, Percy finds out that Zeus has accused him of stealing his lightning bolt. Now, Percy must go on a quest with his new friends to find Zeus's lightning bolt so that there isn't another world war. He also wants to save his mom who has been taken to the Underworld. Now, I think Rick Riordan is trying to teach us that everyone has great worth, even those who feel different and unappreciated.…

Meeting a monster is one way how Percy is a hero. Percy is in the museum with Mrs.Dodds and she starts saying strange things to Percy. Suddenly, she shifts into a monster. “She wasn’t human. She was a shriveled hag with bat wings and claws and a mouth full of yellow fangs, and she was about to slice me to ribbons.” (Riordan 12) This supports Percy meeting a monster because the quote says Mrs.Dodds was not human. Then, the quote describes Mrs.Dodds with things monsters have like bat wings and yellow…
