Social Networking: “How Does It Affect My Life?”
Nowadays, social networking has been taking a big part in our lives especially through the existence of gadgets that helps us to access programs such as; twitter, Face book, MySpace and many more. Did you know that fifty-four percent of companies prohibit the use of social networking, but fifty-seven percent of employees admit to using social networks during work time for personal use? And twenty percent of all divorce cases are directly caused by Face book. Complaints about inappropriate conversations, or just plain jealousy between couples, end a marriage that could’ve blossomed into a new family tree. People who live in the same household can’t even talk to each other anymore. Do u parents realize that if you want your child to come to the kitchen for supper, they will have to post something in their social networking programs advising so? It seems as if a person has lost its effectiveness towards their verbal skills. This question that says: “Does social networking affect our lives?” has been asked by many people around the world, even has risen during the past few years, as people tend to find social networks more familiar and relying their lives into it. I believe social networking makes people act differently since they pretend to be someone they’re not through writing. By this, it can lead to bullying and bullying can lead to stress/depression. First of all, let’s talk about the impacts of social networking to our lives in general. I think every minute someone is logged on, the further they are becoming unaware of the world. They become addicted to the websites after logged on for a while. Social networking sites make children and adults tired and having an unhealthy routine. We as students are beginning to procrastinate our work and waste our times on the networks, instead of school work, and other things we should be focusing. Also the issue of cyber bullying that has risen in the past couple of years because of the popularity of social networking.

One of the main harmful consequence about it other than addiction and loneliness is that it can cause a lack of attention span. This is one of the main reason most kids growing up have some type of ADHD symptoms. When you are communication on social media you are constantly switching tasks. Because of this people can’t pay attention to one thing for very long and constantly switch to something else that’ll catch the users’ eye. This creates bad learning habits. You get so use to receiving information in small sections, constantly switching from one subject to another and your brain can’t keep its mind on one thing. Some say that kids are writing more than they ever have in decades. People feel that this is a good thing if they can use it for education but some feel this will lead to barley illiterate…

To be completely fair, I don’t think the fault rests solely on social networking; it’s symptomatic of a larger concern. Instant communication technologies like IRC, IM and texting are low-resolution communication “proxies”. Instead of learning how to interact directly with human beings, we learn how to interact through these proxies.…

In today’s society, billions of people across the world are accessing the internet multiple times a day. Why wouldn’t they? Many people have the internet on their smart phones, and at the touch of a button can check their email, their Facebook, their bank account balance, movie times, you name it. One of these things, however, usually consumes more of the user’s time than the others. Yes, you guessed it: Facebook. Any social networking site or application, actually, whether it be Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, or something similar, seems to easily suck up hours of a person’s day. Young children and teens are accessing these sites while at school, and as soon as they get home from school. Adults are accessing these sites while at work and those who are married or have children are often choosing to spend time checking their “walls” or profiles rather than spending time with their loved ones. There is no doubt that there are certain social benefits to these sites; many people say we need them to keep in touch with friends. However, the benefits do not outweigh the problems they cause. Social networking causes children and adults to be lazy and overweight, less productive at school and work, and, ironically, causes them to be anti-“social.” For these reasons, social networking is bad for society and should not be used. Social media has different effects on people. Some are positive, some are negative. Teens that spend too much time on social networks like Facebook are more likely to show narcissistic tendencies and display signs of other behavioral problems, according to new psychological research. “While nobody can deny that Facebook has altered the landscape of social interaction, particularly among young people, we are just now starting to see solid psychological research demonstrating both the positives and the negatives, “Telegraph quoted Larry D. Rosen, professor of psychology at California State University, as saying. Negative effects of teenagers overusing social media include making them more prone to vain, aggressive and anti-social behavior. Scientists have found pre-teens and teens that overuse social sites and technology on a daily basis are also more likely to be prone to bouts of anxiety, depression and other psychological disorders. They also found that excessive use of sites like Facebook can also lead to poorer academic performance. Teenagers, who checked social networks at least once during a 15 minute study period, achieved lower grades. Cyber bullying: This is one of the most common online problems kids face. It involves using technology to spread untrue or embarrassing information about another person. Sexting: This refers to getting, sending or passing on sexual messages or photographs by cell phone or computer. About one in five teens say that they have shared naked or partly naked pictures or videos of themselves. Many times there are no negative consequences when sexting happens within a couple or within a small group of friends. Positive effects are Creative expression through writing blogs, sharing or creating music and videos. Community connection, raising money or sharing information about charities. Global awareness, connecting with people from diverse background. Also Health…

The psychological impact of social media on individuals is immense. The positive aspect of the entire experience has been the ability to connect with people. The core USP of social networking sites such as Facebook or Twitter is its ability to connect with people across the world and this brings a certain sense of joy to people. You would have met lots of your old friends through Facebook and that ability to stay in touch with them irrespective of locations makes it a very positive psychological impact on individuals. However, there is another side to this coin. I know a lot of young adults who wake up to Facebook without even brushing their teeth. On a personal level, I have known people who have been online on Facebook for ages without even signing out. There comes a point, after the initial connect with old friends, where you would be idling your time on Facebook doing literally nothing for a long time. This idling time makes you lost and completely distracted from what you had initially intended to do. From 10 mins of Facebook, it would have become 2 hours of Facebook at a stretch. So this addiction to social networking sites makes one even unaware of the real time zones, creating a negative impact on people’s mindsets. This addiction to stay connected and noticed makes one prioritize these small things over many more important activities.…
