Executive Summary
In the midst of intense competition faced by the online retail industry and challenging operational factors, Lowrys Farm has decided to shut down its brick-and-mortar stores and shift its operations to an online store. However, to build an online presence, in-depth market research is required to understand social media marketing trends in Singapore.
Therefore, this report seeks to identify these trends and look into how online retailers are utilizing each platform to maximise their sales and brand outreach.
Based on the Lowrys Database, it highlighted three key findings, (1) the patterns of social media usage amongst online retailers, (2) benefits of social media marketing and (3) future plans amongst online retailers. The results concludes that Facebook, Instagram and Blogs are the most popular social media platforms amongst retailers due to their wide outreach, ease of accessibility and ability to drive web traffic inflow.
Therefore, it is recommended that Lowrys Online adopts the Facebook, Instagram and Blog as part of their social media marketing strategy, as well as having a dedicated social media management team to address customer concerns. These recommendations will allow better management of these platforms and is aimed at building an online presence and reviving consumer confidence.

ABC Corporation is a retail establishment that has attained a stronghold in the United States through brick and mortar stores. Desiring to increase revenue and broaden its customer base, ABC is currently entertaining the idea of entering the online sales arena. Allison Enright, (2012) Editor of Internetretailer.com, states that,” U.S. e-commerce sales accounted 5.1% of total retail spending, according to an estimate released last month by the U.S. Department of Commerce. It is the first time that e-commerce as a percentage of total retail spending has topped 5%.” These figures suggest ABC’s desire to break into online markets is both timely and fiscally sound.…

The retail industry is rapidly changing due to technology advancements and consumer demand. Consumers have shifted to ecommerce spending rather than with brick and mortar stores. Nordstrom, a leader in the retail industry, is facing growth issues in retaining consumers under this transition. Despite this major shift in ecommerce spending, Nordstrom has been able to tap into the market by offering a seamless online shopping experience, similar to the experience customers receive in store. Bloomingdales and Macy’s, Nordstrom competitors, are also facing these issues but are less successful in adaptation. The overall trend will force expansion in their online presence, to mitigate the risk of market share loss. Amazon,…

Social media tools like Twitter and Facebook have taken the world by storm, as is expected of any social networking platform of such colossal magnitude. According to a survey from Constant Contact a company that facilitates social marketing, there has been a rapid increase in social media use to promote businesses. Nearly three-quarters of all small business owners are now turning to social media as a means of marketing their business. The 2012 Social Media Marketing report indicates that a “significant 83% of marketers said that social media was important to their businesses.” In spite of significant statistics such as these and the fact that more people are spending their time online, several of these surveys also report that new media has not completely replaced old marketing methods but has instead enhanced them. Small businesses are still relying heavily on email, website, and event marketing as well as advertising to drive their business.…
