Senior High School
The New Curriculum K-12 Program

K-12 program is composed of Kindergarten and 12 years of basic education (six years of primary education, four years of junior high school and two years of senior high school). Two years were added to our basic education. The government implemented this because of poor quality of education in the Philippines. President Ninoy Aquino signed the Enhance Basic Education Act of 2013 last May 15,2013. It is one way of addressing unemployment problems in our country because students can be easily employed after they graduate in senior high school. Unlike before even if they graduate in high school they do not have a job. Now, unemployment problems are decreased. Senior High School students can choose from 3 tracks: Academic, Sports and Arts and Technical Vocational Livelihood. Lack of classrooms teachers, books, chairs, tables and etc. are the common problem in schools now. It is one disadvantage of the program. This problem may affect the students and also teachers. The students cannot concentrate or focus to their works and also they will not be comfortable. Some classes our held under the trees, plazas and etc. because of no classrooms. Because of adding 2 years our country has a longer education now. Longer education is one disadvantage of the program .It causes financial problem. Financial problem is one reason why students cannot go to school. If the students cannot go to school their future will be not good. Nowadays, some students are entering jobs for their family. Instead of going to school they choose to do their jobs for their daily food. Private Schools will benefit more because every year tuition fees are increased. They should follow the minimum standards of K-12.,even if they choose not to offer grade 11-12. Mother tongue is the first language of people. In Kindergarten, mother tongue or the common language in the area is used in instruction. In Grade 1-3,mother tongue is used in teaching all subjects, except in teaching Filipino and English subjects. Starting Grade 4,Filipino and English will become the language for instruction. Students are able to learn through language. They are happy because they easily understand the lectures of the teacher. The implementation of the Universal Kindergarten began in S.Y. 2011-2012. Kindergarten has become the part of education system and required in admission for grade 1. Kindergarten is for five year old children so that when he/she will graduate there age will be the right age for them to work.

An improvement to the education system will happen through freedom of choice for students in the tenth grade of high school. Students will be able to choose to continue schooling or directly enter the workforce/technical school. This reduces strain on the education system by not having to educate a large portion of children for the extra two years that is commonplace in our current system. A similar education system has been implemented in some European countries to great success (5). To prevent abuse of the system, in order to avoid working for the betterment of society, there will be a four year time period in order to obtain the necessary schooling to succeed. However, people can still attempt to continue their education after the four year time limit, but these people must work a full time job along with schoolwork to continue claiming societal benefits. These measures ensure people can have the career they want to have, and this is one of the primary aspects that keeps the system running and…

High school is a different experience for everyone. The first three years really blend together and do not seem important, but senior year is completely different. Freshman year was full of confusion, learning an array of new things. Sophomore year was where life started to get fun and you “belonged” in the high school. Junior year was where you see the little light at the end of the tunnel, but it was filled with anxiety and frustration. Senior year is where it all becomes worth it and the rest of your life is finally going to begin.…

Moving on, there has been a current trend of graduating in 5 years then in 4 year. Many students take that root to delay their entrance to the real world. As well as having an easier time in school. Unfortunately it’s financially a bad idea because it’s adding another year of expenses. “The longer you extend campus life, the more debt you rack up. High-School is the greatest point in our life. It is the time of growth as well as challenges too. Completing my high-school studies from Guinness Int’l Higher Secondary School which is located at Kathmandu, Nepal was one of the memorable experience of my life. As a high-school student there, I get to enjoy and utilize different range of facilities like extra curriculum activities, computer lab, library, sports etc. which helped me a lot throughout my studies too. However, I still remember going to Guinness High School wearing the same compulsory school uniform or dress which I particularly dislike the most. Therefore, If I could change one thing about my high school then it would definitely be the uniform compulsion rule which was like a headache to every student.…
