Section One [30 marks]

Write a composition on one of the following topics.
You are advised to spend no more than 60 minutes on this part of the paper.
Your composition should be at least 250 words long.
You should draw 2 slashes (//) after the 250th word.
You should write the number of the topic you have chosen in the margin.

1. The Mistake.

2. Write about a day when there was no electricity in your home.

3. Describe what you would see and hear if you went to a market on a Sunday morning. Explain how this had affected your visit there.

4. Describe your favourite character from fiction and explain what makes this character so memorable for you.

5. Write about an occasion when you received a piece of unexpected news.

Section Two [30 marks]

Begin your answer on a fresh page.
You are advised to spend about 30 minutes on this part of the paper.
Your letter should be at least 150 words long.
You should draw 2 slashes (//) after the 150th word.

Your friend from abroad is coming to stay with you for a week and he is interested in the following activities : sightseeing, visiting a school, trying Singaporean food.

Write a letter to explain each of the above activities you are planning for his holiday.

You should suggest to him or her the type of clothing to bring and the place to meet.

You may include other relevant details in the letter.

Set your letter out correctly, in clear, accurate English and in a friendly tone.
