Romon: Video Analysis

First off, I can not be the only one who fell in love with Romon as soon as he came on screen. To see that little boy, how happy he is and motivated, I bet he is an inspiration to all those that meet him. Anyways, the video starts with Romon showing us how a child with severe disabilities can use technology to effect the world they live in and give them a real sense of importance. Romon uses a device called a Dynavox and it allows him through the assistance of a computer to be able to talk and communicate his feelings. As stated in the video, "using technology, Roman can now take on many more challenges". Since this is the area of teaching I plan on going into, If I have a child like Romon in my classroom, I will do everything in my power
The video said it best "The students see the printed word, while simultaneously a digitized voice speaks the words for them. With this technique, auditory, tactile, and visual learning styles are combined, building a more powerful lesson for students. Kids with special needs really need to have all modes of learning. And these devices in the computers provide them with hands on aids". If I had to, I would invest my own money into the intellikeys for my classroom. As the video mentions " Technology is important for visually impaired students, because for one thing, it allows them to be equal to their sighted peers. The speech synthesizer for the blind students that replaces a computer's monitor, converting all visuals on the screen to speech is astonishing. I will definitely use this in my classroom (if needed) to allow a student/s who have a visual impairment to be able to use a computer. I don't think people understand the importance of just being able to use a computer - until they can't. I have seen non-impaired people become hopeless and lost when they are disconnected from their technology, so having a technology that can allow someone to just use a computer who otherwise wouldn't be able to...is the bee's
