As the days go by, things change. For now, technology is slowly replacing those labored hands that has controlled th8ings for many years. In the two essays, "From Learning as Torture to Learning as Fun" by Don Tapscott and "Makes Learning Fun" by Clifford Stoll, the two authors discuss the use of computers in education. Both authors discuss the positive and negative points that new age generation technology has had on today's society. One author leans toward the good in technology and the other author leans toward the bad in technology. While both essays express many strong points about the use of computers, I am leaning towards Clifford Stoll and agree with him. He clearly gives his thoughts of how technology…

Technology is centered on the individual. Postman states, “In the classroom it is individuals that learn, not groups, however an individual must learn in a setting which individual needs are subordinated to group interests. The classroom is intended to tame the ego, to connect the individual with others, and to demonstrate the value and necessity of group cohesion” (547). Working in groups allows children to communicate their ideas and learn though listening and speaking with one another. Additionally, working in groups helps children learn how to overcome differences and find compromises. If children were educated exclusively through computers this important part of their development would be missed. Children would grow up without knowing how to interact and or speak with one…

Ever been in a computer store and a guy in a nice dress coat with Khaki pants and leather Gucci shoes on, walk and just chuckles at you because you are looking at a Windows PC? Well, chances are that it was either a Mac user. "Mac user interviewed and self-admitted as filling cool, artsy, higher in the social society, and often harassed PC owners trying to get them to switch”. (Firmin 2) If one wants to get more value for their money then they will want to look at nothing else but PC. If one was to take the money that a Mac owner spent and upgrade a PC with the same amount, they would have a much better system than the Mac owner. Macs hardware is well built and appealing but is expensive. Most of their laptops have SATA hard drives which are fast but are short on memory and don't come with DVD players or HDMI ports and the batteries are not removable. PCs on the other hand plenty of design, specification, and price options. Hardware for PC runs from topnotch to trash, with the prices matching the quality.…

Again, to express the importance of this issue in our society is very important for our future generations. Technology is not going in a backwards direction and to not experience certain tools at an early age may damper your skills later on in life. There are a multitude of schools all around the country that are just now starting to acquire MacBooks and iPads for use in the classroom. There have been some issues associated with the program at some schools, but just as any new program, the small issues are worked out at first and the outcome will be a more comprehensive system of…

With advancements in technology, some students have chosen to complete their schoolwork through the Internet, rather than in traditional classrooms. Those who support a traditional classroom approach to learning argue that it provides more of an opportunity for students to interact with the teacher and other students. Those who feel that learning over the Internet is better argue that it allows students to learn anytime and anywhere they choose. Do you feel education is better provided in traditional classrooms or when offered over the Internet? Write an essay to be read by a classroom teacher in which you persuade the reader that either traditional classroom education or Internet-based learning is better. We live in an era where a myriad of gadgets and gizmos are available for our everyday convenience. A time where people are willing to line up outside of an Apple store for a $750 phone or a group of distraught adults that are ready to murder one another in a Walmart for the latest electronics their children want for Christmas; is this the ideal use for high technology? Kids nowadays will have these high technologies to either benefit their learning experience or have their education meet its demise. Even though high technology is a tool that’s able saves us time and allows us to be more efficient with our workload, I believe that the education received through technology does not compare to the one received through rigorous work or hours of reading material.…

In my classroom I would use a computer for exploration has its pros by allowing students to explore the internet and to do research. There is so much more information on the computer and the information is more current. When Pluto was delisted as a planet and recognized it as a star we had the current information because of the internet access. Students find it easier to access information which helps students stay engaged in a project. The con for using a computer for exploration is that students may explore beyond the parameters of their project and get distracted. I will use a computer for lesson integration and it has its pros by incorporating the technology into the lessons which helps the students get excited about the subject. There are many subjects like social studies and science that are more engaging with virtual trips and streaming video. The con to using a computer is that it is not always easy to find what you want. This can be very frustrating and cause more time in planning your lessons. I will use a computer with students that have special needs and there are many pros. First, students can go at their own pace and get individual instruction, and handicapped students can use assistive technology. The use of a computer allows students to work at their individual pace and get instruction directly from the instructor. This allows teachers to have more time for other students and it allows teachers to use that time to do more. Students that need assistive technology can get this from using the computer and will…

Students should be allowed to use educational technology in schools across the nation. Such as using apps on computers or cell phones to study for upcoming test or quizzes. Students should be able to access knowledge from all over the world not just one classroom. Also there is a greater chance of the students being engaged if technology is introduced and regularly used. Technology is a thing that should be embraced in school not banished.…

First, Choy really tries to see both sides of the story in this situation. She came up with some points on what most professors think about the subject. There were top four reasons for banning laptops in classrooms due to Choy’s research and experience. Choy’s reasons were “(1) the upraised lids of laptops distract the instructor, and they often prevent the instructor from making eye contact with the students;(2) laptops distract other students, who cannot help but see what is on the screens----for example Facebook and twitter;(3) students who use laptops to take notes, take overly extensive notes, which means that they are doing stenography and are not really focused and thinking about what is going on in the classroom; (4) most students are so busy taking notes on their laptop do not participate in whatever discussion there may be in the course (106).” Choy has made it clear that in her class, there are only a select few who use laptops. She feels that if the students choose to take…

If we got laptops, behavior issues would go down. Behavior Issues would go down because students would look forward to class more often. However, having laptops would be a privilege. If you misbehaved you would not be aloud to use if for a certain peroid of time. It could be a disciplinary tool. You have to earn it. You just don't get it. On a website called Eutopia it says "One strategy is to have students face the wall while working on their laptops so that the teacher can circle the room and ensure on task behavior."Another way to prevent behavior issues is to block websites that are inappropriate or that just don't have anything to do with learning or school. This could make a lot less stress down in the office and for your benefit too. I guarantee 97% of the students in this school would love to have laptops. Students would not wanna get in trouble because if they do, it will get taken away.…

Teachers complain that having a laptop is too much temptation for some students. They just can't keep themselves from browsing Facebook or playing solitaire in class, so they don't pay attention and miss out on important information or don't participate in class discussions. To this I say that college students are adults and need to be treated as adults, and that means they should take responsibility for their own education. If someone wants to chat on Facebook all day let him, it's his choice to fail, not the teacher's.…

The bell rings, school is dismissed. As you’re twisting the knob of your combination lock, in your head thoughts are jumbling on what textbooks you need to take home. You grab you books and go. You get on the bus, find your seat and the bus manages to leave the school you realize that you forgot your chemistry textbook. Text books are a huge fuss and if you ask me, I much rather prefer replacing them with laptops. With laptops everything is there, you can’t forget your algebra or chemistry textbook; you can just pull up the online version on your laptop. Aside from being a little more organized in having access to your classes at the click of a button, in the long run, it would be more efficient for the environment.…

First of all, even if computers cannot replace teachers, it can be really helpful when it comes to complete some knowledge learned in class. Indeed, any student would gladly use any help or any way to improve the way he or she undertands a specific lesson. There has already been some people who chose to use computers to get some help for their study. For instance, the Khan Academy offers more than four thousands and five hundred free lessons on youtube. The whole point is not to be in competition with school, but to strengthen the teaching. Using computers and the internet to reinforce our understanding is a clever idea, but it cannot replace the real teaching and the real teacher we can interact with. Moreover, the main reason why computers cannot replace teachers is that it has not the ability to adapt to the difficulties or the partcular issues some students may have. The teacher can take into account those kind of complexities, but a computer can't. That is why computers can be used in order to improve our skills, but not to start from scratch, and on a computer, it is not possible to get everything you can have from a real person's teaching. Even if computers can help adults or teenagers, it is even less efficient with children.…

Certainly, computers have many advantages. They can work better then a teacher. Sometimes students often distracted by things what the teacher is doing or with his/her mood and it can make the students lose their focus in studying. With computers taking the role of teachers students will no longer have any such distraction and will be able to concentrate on the subject. Another advantage with computers is that unlike humans they do not need breaks on account of bad health or their any other personal commitments. Thus schedules are never disturbed. Not only the syllabus can be finished on time but will go on an even pace. So the students need not be hurried through their course and their performance would not suffer at the end of the year.…
