Why Jose Rizal deserved the title of Philippine National Hero?
Philippines, a country of courage, bravery and patriotism. Home of many people who are ready to fight for freedom and equality. When Spaniards set foot on our country, the colonizers tried to conquer Mactan. The place is leaded by a Datu named Lapu-lapu who opposed Catholicism, the Datu and his soldiers draw their swords and fought the Spaniards forcing them to fall back. Andres Bonifacio, the leader of "Katipunan" known as Supremo used his sword to fight for freedom. But then there's Jose Rizal. Jose Rizal, a genius, a man of dignity and a patriot. Rizal came from a prosperous, educated and well mannered family from Binan, Laguna. Although Rizal is a rich kid, he grew up as a religious man. During his early days, he slowly noticed inequality between Filipinos and Mestizos. When Rizal came to Spain for study, he was surprised because the Spanish people look at him as an equal person. This is when Rizal was enlightened that there is oppression in his beloved country. Unlike any other Filipino patriot, Rizal never used violence or bloodshed to channel his love for freedom and democracy. Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo, two novels written by him was his medium to show the Filipino people that inequality is a widespread disease in our country. The works of Rizal triggered his fellow countrymen to fight for their freedom. This proves that a hero doesn't need to be use a sword, bow or any weapon to fight for their goal. Rizal showed us that a single pen and a piece paper is enough to fight for your freedom. Even after Rizal's death, he's works are still reputed. Jose Rizal knows the true meaning of being a hero, that's why he deserves the position of being a Philippine National Hero.
