RESEARCH DATA ANALYST JOB PROFILE SUMMARY JOB CATEGORY: JOB TITLE: Research Support Research Data Analyst

JOB CATEGORY DEFINITION: This specialty covers the design, implementation and evaluation of various research projects. Functions include providing support in areas such as instrumentation, data management, laboratory operations and general administration. JOB TITLE DEFINITION: The Research Data Analyst gathers and analyzes data from various databases and sources, performing statistical and/or mathematical programming, developing reports and visual representations, developing and/or maintaining databases, and providing consultation, technical assistance, and coordination for a wide variety of clinical/biomedical investigators or other research faculty; advises and assists investigators in determining the appropriate statistical methodology to meet their study needs and objectives; uses various statistical and mathematical software packages to summarize and interpret statistical results; and designs, implements, and coordinates study activities and process improvements. Duties are performed at various levels within the defined title. WORKING CONDITIONS: Specific physical requirements and effort are outlined in Job Responsibilities Worksheet (list of essential job duties and responsibilities specific to a particular job at the unit level) in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA). Level 1 positions typically demonstrate baseline working knowledge of routine work applications; follow standard principles and systems and use appropriate terminology associated with a particular field of specialization; participate as a team member in a collaborative environment within a diverse workforce; actively contribute to completion of team goals and assigned tasks; clearly communicate information, ideas, or instructions verbally and in writing; follow recommended approach to assigned work to facilitate achievement of desired results; ensure safe practices and environmental consciousness are exhibited in decisions; typically work under direct and frequent supervision while performing routine duties using established procedures with detailed instructions. Typical work activities:             Collaborate with research coordinators, statisticians, clinical/biomedical investigators and other research faculty to implement a statistical analysis plan Develop, write, execute, test, debug, implement, modify and support new or existing statistical or mathematical software programs in support of research projects Write documentation Manage, reformat, enter, edit, merge and maintain data in preparation for analysis Conduct validation checks Query reports for problematic data (erroneous or illogical data values); send to supervising faculty, research coordinators and clinical/biomedical investigators for resolution Transfer data among different formats for analysis purposes Analyze data using statistical or mathematical software to generate descriptive statistics and develop statistical models and graphics Review statistical output for consistency and quality Prepare tables and quality graphics of statistical results for inclusion in interim and final reports, presentations, abstracts, manuscript submissions and grant applications Communicate statistical results to supervising faculty or staff Prepare and assemble data sets, corresponding forms and other materials for public use as specified according to governmental policy regulations
