He uses his authoritative, coercive and expert power. He uses directive style of leadership, like he says, “It is no democracy. It is dictatorship. I am the law.” He also appreciates others effort as he says to his assistant coach after winning state championship, “You are hall of fame in my book.” He gives full authority to captain (Gerry) to make changes but he reminds his policy to captain that he has to justify his point for any change in team. The leadership issue presented in the film is the lack of belief in the leader-that he can accomplish better than what has already taken place. In the beginning, the only person who thought much of Coach Dale was the man who hired him, Principal Cletus. Norman didn’t receive a warm welcome nor have the trust of the fathers of the sons on the team, the town, or the team itself. Coach Dale had to earn the trust and respect in order to lead the group of undisciplined individuals he…

By the end of the movie there are bonds formed between Bonne and both the black and white player of The Titans. These bonds are important as we as the audience understand that Boone has gained the acceptance and respect of Coach Yoasts team. In the first instance before the camp Gerry Bertier claimed that "he could not play with these animals", by the end of the movie he we could see that he had become accustomed to Coach Boones expectations. Gerry was the captain of the Titans and Boone treated him so, he followed Coach Boone's orders to the very end and had overcome his personal racial tension. Coach Boone had successfully become accepted by his players despite his color because of his good work ethic and kind dictatorship. In getting the boys to work together Boone overcome his challenge of being accepted by the team through uniting them and made it clear to the viewer that school integrations and a mixed color community could…

He was an authoritarian leader who command and control the team. “I've seen you guys can shoot but there's more to the game than shooting. There's fundamentals and defence.” The two leadership styles followed by Coach Norman Dale were Commanding/ Coercive and coaching. He tried to establish a dictatorship rules in the game. Every player should follow “Do what I say”. His need came in action when team required in urgency and his achiever plans. He too established a coaching style which guided team members their strengths and weakness and aspired to win. “Strap, God wants you on the floor.” “If you put your effort and concentration into playing to your…

The movie “Remember the Titans” by Boaz Yakin is based on a true story of African American coach who gets assigned to racially integrated high school football team in Alexandria, Virginia during 1970s. The story depicts the clear benefits of merging cultures (two races in this case), group cohesiveness and effective leadership, which results in The Titans becoming the champions of the league. It also shows the hardships that the process of integration of two cultures can bring and is a good example of effectively managing diversity in an organization. Diversity in general is very beneficial to any organization as it makes the best human talent available to the organization,…

If I had to pick a character that i relate to, I would choose Louie from Remember The Titans. I would choose Louie because we both play football, make good grades, and are Christians. I believe that Gerry Bertier is a strong leader and a great role model in this film. He is seen as a strong role model being the captain of the football team, a typical american all-star. He appears competent to his followers in that he is good at leading his team, and is often seen yelling at his teammates when they appear faulty. His teammates, family, and friends rely on him to carry the team. Gerry has high expectations, and wants to have it all- be captain, with a beautiful girlfriend, a perfect family, great friends, college expectations and the hope of winning the championship. Gerry is willing to, after some time, accept his fellow african-american teammates and plays a key role in helping his family and friends do the same. He ends up being inseparable from Julius, an african american teammate. A pivotal scene in the movie is when he tells his former best friend and teammate that he is no longer allowed to play on the team because he purposefully allowed an african american teammate to be injured and proves he will no longer stand…

After viewing the films Remember the Titans and Seven in class it made me realize all of the things in the media swirling around vice and virtue. Nearly everything we use as entertainment in the media revolves around these seven cardinal sins, the vices, and the seven cardinal virtues. The truth is our society today thrives on these things; many times we will not watch or listen to something that is all good, the evil is needed to supplement the entertainment factor. Our society enjoys watching struggle and violence.…

Has one ever heard the saying “Attitude reflects leadership, captain”. This quote originally came from the movie “Remember the Titans”. The movie was based on a true story about a town that loved football and was the most prejudiced town in the 1970’s. The movie took place in a hometown called Alexandria, located in Virginia, where schools were both forced to integrate with an all-white school and with an all and black school together. Denzel Washington, does an amazing job being there for the football players and through the movie. The main themes of the movie are overcoming racism, friendship, team bonding, and overcoming adversity between the black and white communities. A few psychology concepts or terms I would like to voice is the operant conditioning, modeling, scapegoat theory, social learning theory, and obedience. I’m going to voice…

There is no doubt that Remember the Titans is chalked full of moments of triumph and despair. Coach Boone is constantly a source of leadership for his players and eventually the entire community. There are many times when power come into play both on and off the field. Some examples of this power that is demonstrated in the movie are referent power, coercive power, need for power (both personalized and socialized), legitimate power and reward power. These leadership concepts are constant through the movie as well as in specific clips.…

Have you ever imagined not having a coach for your sports team? Or why your coach is so successful? Even though they are very demanding, they’re essential for any team’s success. “I demand a lot out of my players, but we have fun and I give them room to learn and make mistakes,” said Coach Mike Bates. They provide structure and are the heart and souls of each team. Coaches have to love the game. The team reflects the coach, if he’s successful so will you be. The coach needs to be disciplined and teach the fundamentals of the game. They should instill moral values into the team.…

The movie and story of Clash of the Titans showcasing the hero Perseus, son of Zeus are far from similar. Perseus according to the Greeks was born from Danae when she was hid away by her father, later on he is found by a fisherman where he is taken to Seriphus, then is forced to go slay the Medusa to rescue his mother, and on his journey back to Seriphus meets the love of his life eventually killing his grandpa on accident. Whereas in the movie Perseus is found by the fisherman but makes his way back to Argos, from there he is made to go journey through a scorpion infested desert, after a long amount of unnecessary film time he eventually slays Medusa, flies back Argos, and kills the leviathan.…
