Relationship Between Problemsolving and Creativity
Introduction:
Creativity
According to cognitive psychologist Robert J. Sternberg, creativity can be broadly defined as "...the process of producing something that is both original and worthwhile." Creativity is all about finding new ways of solving problems and approaching situations. This isn 't a skill restricted to artists, musicians or writers; it is a useful skill for people from all walks of life.
Three Dimensions of creativity: Kaufman and Baer found three dimensions in self-reports of creativity. The dimension described by creativity in communication and interpersonal relationships is similar to everyday creativity; the dimension described primarily by crafts and arts can be labelled artistic creativity; and the dimension described by math and science concerns scientific or intellectual creativity.
Problem Solving
Problem-solving is a mental process that involves discovering, analyzing and solving problems. The ultimate goal of problem-solving is to overcome obstacles and find a solution that best resolves the issue.
The best strategy for solving a problem depends largely on the unique situation. In some cases, people are better off learning everything they can about the issue and then using factual knowledge to come up with a solution. In other instances, creativity and insight are the best option.
Some Steps in problem solving: 1. Identifying the Problem: While it may seem like an obvious step, identifying the problem is not always as simple as it sounds. In some cases, people might mistakenly identify the wrong source of a problem, which will make attempts to solve it inefficient or even useless.

2. Defining the Problem: After the problem has been identified, it is important to fully define the problem so that it can be solved.

3. Forming a Strategy: The next step is to develop a strategy to solve the problem. The approach used will vary depending upon the situation and the individual 's unique preferences.

4. Organizing

Creativity is about risk taking and making connections, allowing children to explore and express themselves through a variety of media or materials including, dance, music, making things, drawing, painting and make believe and to make new things emerge as a result. Being creative is strongly linked to play and can occur through a child being absorbed in their own actions and ideas. Children can explore their emotions and it is only partly about producing an end product and is more about children enjoying the process and learning from it. Creativity to me means imagination, vision, inspiration, and originality. Creativity can sort everyone from one another. The same way in which someone dresses to the way they paint, draw or write are all different ways people show their individuality through their own creativity. Creativity is modernism, novelty items, something lively, something that separates that person from another. Creativity can be seen in an artist painting, deciding their own way of perceiving the picture. Creativity can be seen in cooking recipes, when a cook at a restaurant puts new ingredients together to make a new dish. Symbolically, creativity can be defined by me as having…

Creativity is seeing the same situations others do but putting an individual twist on the outcome or circumstances surrounding it. The Navy's Seabees have a "can do" motto which exemplifies creativity. "You probably will not have the resources available so you must think out-side the box to accomplish the job". Most people attempt to accomplish their duties and obligations in a timely manner.
