Reflective Essay: Developing My Writing Skills
In order for me to develop my writing skills and Americanize my essays and its organizations, I had to first overcome and develop some major metacognitive skills in myself which each of them helped me realize one missing aspect of a good essay. An aspect of a good essay is for it to include a good amount of knowledge coupled with facts and it shall reflect the writer’s thoughts and point. Moreover, if a writer is out to make an argument he/she surely have to be well aware and knowledgeable regarding the topic. I was facing memorization issues at which I wasn’t aware of at first in that was stopping me from applying good thoughts into my essays. By reading articles regarding the metocognition I realized that the problem I was facing is known …show more content…
The process helped each student including me to brains storm with my classmates, and that lead me to criticize my knowledge regarding each topic. Each time we were brainstorming and were creating posters we had to come up with thoughts that can easily describe the topics. That made me realize that I wasn't actually well aware of the topics introduced in each section even though I had a good sense of knowledgeability. I started developing Metamemory skills in order to criticize my thoughts whether they’re right or wrong each time that I wanted to apply them on my essays. Achieving Metamemory helped me tremendously throughout this journey by forcing me to rearrange my thoughts into the right ideas in each topic. Although metamemory played an outstanding role in helping me with my writings, it wasn’t the only concept and mindset that I have had achieved throughout this class. In fact, problem-solving made a lot more difference towards making my essays

I have learned that revising your writing makes it way better than before. You find your mistakes and realize you can replace words such as “bring to” to a different high vocabulary word such as “cease”. I know now that there is no way to make your paper perfect. There will always be a word, words, or sentence you could change. In addition, I’ve gained a better understanding on passive and active sentences. Once I was done writing my paper, and began to reread it I found some passive sentences. All I did was revise the sentence which helped my writing flow better. Initially, I read the first paper I wrote for the Quarter 1 Writing Assessment and I noticed that I didn’t follow the directions completely. As I read on, there were many simple sentences and not many transitional words.…

When one masters a certain practice, one becomes confident and nearly perfects the practice either because one had guidance or practiced continuously. I have not put myself in either one of those situations. To be honest, I write ‘put myself’ because I believe I had the choice of removing myself from classrooms to another better one; and the choice of being able to discipline myself to practice writing continuously.…

Throughout this semester I have received a lot of input and criticism on my essays from my TA, my professor and fellow students. This semester I was fortunate to receive quick, fairly reliable, built in feedback. From the feedback that I have received by taking this class I believe that I have become a better writer as it was beneficial for the most part. Feedback that I received from my fellow students was occasionally helpful. It typically varied from week to week. One week I would write a paper and get a ton of markings and criticism on it which was helpful because I was able to see what I did wrong and I would rarely have to get it proof read another time. Other times I would turn in a paper and it would come back with few markings and comments. This felt almost like a waste of time because I knew that I had more mistakes that I did not catch earlier. Because of this I would have to go out of my way and someone else would have to go out of their way to get it proof read again, or I would risk handing in the good copy with mistakes. One thing that I appreciated from peer evaluation days was that was able to see what worked in my paper, what did not and what I need to improve on.…

Writing is definitely not my favorite task, but I don’t hate it either. I would say that I am indifferent towards writing. However, writing is a skill that needs to be honed and mastered, because it plays such a key role in almost any career. So when I started working in the lab I was a little apprehensive, because I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect. But through my work in the lab I have observed so many different levels of students and how that plays a role in their writing and style; I have even learned some facts about the way I write that I was not aware of. I have learned that I am not very confident in my own writing skills, and I need to work on my writer’s voice.…

I feel the material I have learned in this course has qualified me to have met the WST requirement. However, throughout each assignment within this course, I felt my writing skill and understanding become significantly stronger.…

Over the course of this year in English, I think my writing process has excelled the most along with my overall writing. In the past, I have used similar techniques to develop a final essay, but, this year, I have begin to rely more heavily on planning out and slowly chipping away at my essays and papers. I believe also that because of this planning the strength of my writing as a whole has grown. Personally, I do not think that I grew in my vocabulary usage. Overall this year, I grew as a writer in ways that I would not have predicted.…

Through Advanced Composition my writing skills have grown immensely. I have become a more vibrant and expressive writer while still being aware of the subtle nuances of grammar and mechanics. I learned how to view writing as a process, rather than just a goal. I wrote a personal memoir about a game of chess I once played with a friend(Benchmark #1). In this paper, I learned how the value of outlining, and listing as part of the writing process. I had to approach a mediocre story with a fresh new perspective.…

July 1993, Lexington, Kentucky. A woman gives birth to a beautiful baby girl with seven holes in her heart; thus began 19 years of visits to an esteemed cardiologist. Extremely worried, her parents inquired regarding their daughter's future, alleviating their worries, the doctor's advice to them was to be diligent and "treat her as you would a normal child." Knowing I have been different did not stop me from participating fully in life, especially during my childhood. In December 2012, we received the wonderful news that the final hole had closed. The odds were in my favor since I have been lucky to have never needed surgery, nor required hospital care from a critical injury. I believe that there is a reason I exist on this earth; and my blueprint…
