English Class Reflective Essay
This semester has had a lot of work especially in English II, but I’m glad it was like that because I have learned a lot in my English class. I’ll be talking about a few things that I learned this semester. Like discrimination, debating, and how to convince people to change their mind about something.
In the beginning of this class I learned about discrimination, which is when people treat others different because of their skin color. In the book “The Secret Life of Bees,” the main character, who is white, has a babysitter who is black which one day goes out to the town to sign a paper that would help black on something. On the way there a white guy comes and starts making fun of her because she was black, so then she spit at the guy’s shoe

In the movie, “12 Angry Men” there were 12 men who were deciding whether this guy was guilty or not and 11 of them chose guilty and only one chose not guilty. Then the guy who chose not guilty started giving examples on why the guy wasn’t guilty, although he may be wrong he still made points that were very justable and convince the other 11 men to change their vote to not guilty one by one. At the end he convinced all the 11 men to vote for not guilty and the guy on trail was free. From this I learned that if I have enough proof and am smart enough I can convince anyone to change their mind about something.
Finally the last thing I learned in english for this semester was how to debate. In the debate we did in class, I learned the process of a debate. We took about two weeks doing search for our argument both affirmative and negative. We also did an actual debate in class like we argued and we did everything that would happen in a real debate. This was something I’m glad we learned because I actually wanted to be a lawyer but not any more because I noticed that it’s a lot of work. At the end I have had the experience of a debate and probably in the future they’ll be

Before arriving on my first day of instruction, I believed that my argumentation skills were at a reasonable level and as a result I was not going to learn an abundance in English 2, critical thinking and writing. However, this was not the case. I quickly realized that the pathos, ethos and logos of which was introduced to me in high school, had long lost their meaning and subsequently found myself in the deep end of the swimming pool, once again. With that being said, through learning these concepts, planning for the subsequent tasks and writing the assigned essays, I acquired a substantial amount of knowledge which is widely applicable.…

My former English professor would always say “find a way 101”, whenever a student found themselves struggling in her class. At first I did not understand why she was so rude to her students, this was until after I graduated high school when I realized I was wrong. She was not rude, she was not mean, she was preparing her students for college level English classes. Reflecting on my past encounter with the toughest teacher at my former high school, I can say I feel prepared for a college level class. Although I may have taken the most rigorous class in high school, that does not mean I am expected to pass without falling short. However, I am certain that I am ready for the challenges that my professor will assign me in the fall.…

Throughout my high school career I’ve struggled a lot with my grades, however I’ve managed to maintain at least a B average and at some points a C average. There was no specific classes that I struggled with it was just the honest truth that I was more interested in the social aspect of high school rather than the academic part. My freshman year I struggled with Biology 1P and Geometry where I completed the year with a C in both classes. Sophomore year the class that gave me problems was English 2 Pre AP, the reason it gave me so many problems was because it was my first year in a pre AP class and I didn’t know the tempo of the class, along with the difficulty of the curriculum. During my junior year I took two challenging classes which were:…

Our first assigned essay was to analyze class readings and add our personal experiences to agree or disagree with the ideas presented. I really enjoyed writing essay-one the first time around and also enjoyed revising it for my final project with the knowledge gained from my first semester in English 101. Essay-one included my personal experiences, anecdotes of authors from class readings, and gave me a chance to write about something deep within my inner self. It being essay-one, I had and knew I had trouble developing PIE paragraphs with strong topic sentences. After revising the first topic sentences in my paragraphs to ensure I had been including all aspects of the PIE paragraphs, point illustration and explanation, I began to construct paragraphs that were full of detail and in coherence with the rest of my essay.…

Entering my first semester of college I did not believe I could produce university level writing straight from the beginning. It turned out that I was capable of writing at an undergraduate level and it took the tremendous writing professors at holy family to teach me that. After concluding my first writing class, also known as “Writing I”, I thought I was the best writing in my class. Mr. Litten and his writing class stripped me of that belief. I do not mean that in a harmful way. Writing II challenged me at a higher rate than any previous English class. Entering Writing II after the completion of my first writing course here at Holy Family, I believed I was superb writer, yet I still processed the knowledge to be aware that I still have a large amount of room for improvement. I could…
