Since then, Himala has been exhibited in a number of film festivals around the world. On November 11, 2008, Himalâ won the Viewer's Choice Award for the Best Film of all Time from the Asia-Pacific Region in the 2008 CNN Asia Pacific Screen Awards beating out nine other outstanding movies.(voted by thousands of film fans around the world. In the movie The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, Vera Farmiga takes on the role of Elsa, being Bruno and Gretel’s mother, and Ralph’s wife. She acts oblivious towards Bruno when it comes to the actualities of their surrounding, yet resents Ralph because she knows the truth. The movie takes place during World War II in Germany when women were treated a lot different than in today’s society. She plays, on one side of the spectrum, as a worried mother trying to protect her children from the outside world. In contrast, she plays a wife conflicted with the harsh realities of her husband’s job and her feelings on war. Vera Farmiga plays a strong, uplifting role as Elsa in The Boy in the Striped Pajamas.…

The Development of the Philippines and of Japan.—In many ways the next decade of the history of the Philippine Islands may resemble the splendid development of the neighboring country of Japan. Both countries have in past times been isolated more or less from the life and thought of the modern world. Both are now open to the full current of human affairs. Both countries promise to play an important part in the politics and commerce of[10]the Far East. Geographically, the Philippines occupy the more central and influential position, and the success of the institutions of the Philippines may react upon the countries of southeastern Asia and Malaysia, to an extent that we cannot appreciate or foresee, Japan, by reason of her larger population, the greater industry of her people, a more orderly social life, and devoted public spirit, is at the present time far in the lead.…
