The purpose of this assignment is to develop my own personal plan to meet my educational goals at Walden University. It also allows me to begin a dialog with my instructor about my interests and goals and to give a background of my educational and professional experience. Personal and Professional Goals
My name is Sherri Teare and I have been in nursing for 26 years. I am a mother of two adult children and have been married to my high school sweetheart for 28 years. With the empty nest syndrome in full swing, I have decided that now is the time for me to embark on my dream to continue my education. I have always joked that I could be a professional student. I love to learn and I love being a student. My ultimate goal is to get my master’s degree in nursing at Walden University. With a degree in nursing informatics I can make a positive impact on the way we practice nursing. I can do this by improving communication between providers and patients and improving continuity of care. Educational Background and Research Proficiency
I began my nursing career as a licensed practical nurse soon after high school. I always knew that I wanted to become a nurse but I also needed to earn an income as soon as possible. Having a career after one year in school was something that I could handle personally and financially at the time. While in the L.P.N. program I had the opportunity to work in a local hospital as a student nurse. After graduation I took a position within the same hospital and worked there for the next 7 years. I had the opportunity to work on several units during that time, including medical/surgical, cardiac, orthopedics, mother/baby and finally the psychiatric unit. It was there that I found my niche.
