EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

In their Endeavour to further align human resource "people" practices in line with the business imperatives, TATA Motors has embarked on a project of Competency Mapping.

The company’s vision is to be among the top ten full-range automobile companies in the world, in terms of volume of vehicles and profitability. In their journey towards trying to build a world-class global organization, there are many ongoing initiatives in the organization, which are entailing its people to work in an increasingly challenging environment - in such a way, that each of them will be working smarter than their counterpart in any of the competitor companies, in India and around the world. These new and higher benchmarks that need to be met, present a challenge of thinking and working at a higher level that many will find difficult to visualize as they go about their everyday work.

During the period of two months I had the privilege to work with TATA Motors.

As a part of my summer internship I had to
