My name is Christy Hitt. I am a mother of two wonderful daughters who are now grown, married and have children of their own, and yes that makes me a grandmother. I travel with my husband as his job requires him to do. I work with a physician on a remote desktop and have access to the business computer wherever I go. I have been working in the medical field for fourteen years now. The medical field is rapidly changing in every aspect of the word. It is getting harder and more stressful to try and figure out all the changes on my own. I talked with my husband about possibly me going back to school to obtain more knowledge in medical billing and coding. My husband thought this would be a great idea and backed me 100 percent. The only worry was how I was going to handle my fulltime job, moving every three to six months to a different state, taking care of our home in Florida and school work. My husband assured me that we would figure out a way that we could accomplish this and make time for me to study. So, I started my online studies with Penn Foster to obtain my Associates degree in Healthcare Management. I wake up around 4:30 in the morning to help my husband get ready for his day, which would include getting the coffee going, making lunch and of course trying to wake him up; the man sleeps like a rock. I then have to get myself ready for my day. As I am booting up my computer, my Internet goes out, how convenient. Now, I have to call the cable company to come out as soon as possible to get it fixed, as my work and school both require me to be connected to an Internet service. I start by calling the patients and reminding them about their appointments for the following day; this can be time consuming and often takes a good part of the day as we see approximately fifty patients a day. I can see the insurance aging is getting behind and that is something I have to work on today, as this is how we get paid. I also have to do re-credentialing for our Medicaid and

There are several different types of advertising in the world today, like newspaper ads and magazine ads. Then there are commercials, they can be very manipulative in persuading specific audiences to buy their products. In the Pepsi Next “Dancing Baby” commercial, they use what is called a trick image. It is the funniest part of the commercial and is what makes it so appealing. This trick image is the baby in the back ground dancing and doing tricks; it is very eye catching and hilarious in my opinion. This commercial uses different types of appeals to make it more interesting. The husband and wife mention some of the statistics about the product to help enhance Pepsi Next. The target audience is parents of children six months to one year of age and new mothers trying to lose weight. This commercial affects me positively because it is funny and the statistics are true.…

As she makes her way toward town in a path she seems to have taken many times before, she has to overcome many obstacles. She represents struggle, but most of all she represents determination. Every move she makes seems to be a slow, gradual move towards her goal. The story gives insight to the persistence and boldness of Phoenix Jackson’s life to emphasize the struggle in other people’s lives.…

Becoming a full time Medical Assistant student has been a vast piece of cheese in my life that is affecting my entire world inside, outside, and around me as well as others around myself in my life. The children are probably the greatest affected since both my boys are so used to me being there for everything of every day. They are still rolling with the punches as I drop one off for school and leave the other home with a relative. As senseless as they act when I walk through the door coming in from school, they want to be clingy as possible, due to the fact I’m away for some of the day. I’m doing something important for my future and theirs. They also may not realize it now, nevertheless they will observe my dedication towards my goal in a career. They will learn from this and will grow as I will do the…

In the article “Making the world safe for stupidity”, Leonard Pitts Jr., columnist for The Miami Herald, claims that marketers believe we are “feeble-mindedness” because of the “idiot warnings” that are on most advertisements. Pitts supports his claim by outlining all advertisements that have “idiot warnings” on them. For example he uses “Like a bread-pudding container that says, “Product will be hot after heating.”” This is to show how marketers believe that we are naïve and don’t have common sense. Then, he changes his claim to “Corporate America is to blame because they have damaged the human species”. Pitts’ purpose is to point out that marketers believe we are idiots in order for readers to see why “idiot warnings” were created. He establishes a disappointing and sarcastic tone for his readers to disapprove and laugh with him.…

I decided to return to school for personal reasons. Returning to school is something that I have thought of doing for a very long time. I guess you could just say that I have been very lazy and procrastinated for a long time. I tried to go to college right out of high school but it did not work out. I don’t think I was quite prepared to make that big step. I was headed down the wrong path and decided it was time to do something with my life. I knew it would help me to grow as a person. I now find myself in sort of the same situation. I’ve been a cashier for 18yr and now I work hard every day loading a Goodwill trailer to support my kids I know that without a collage education that most likely will not happen. I also want to be a positive influence to my children and show him how important education is. I want to be a good influence to my son and daughter but most of all I want to better myself as a person. Plus most of all I know in 4 to 5 yr. my fibromyalgia will not be getting any better. By that time my R.A. in my back will be getting bad, I still have 8 yrs. left to support my little girl. I know I can’t do it working on…

Jon Katz explains why men grow up to be insensitive in his essay “How Boys Become Men.” This thesis is demonstrated both with a specific set of values for boys, as well as in two personal recollections. Imagine yourself at three years old. What would you be doing? Would your mom be hovering over you making sure you didn’t hurt yourself or get into any trouble? Or would you be downstairs in the living room watching the television and playing with your Barbie dolls? At the age of three Jeannette Wall’s was cooking hot dogs while her mother painted in the next room. In The Glass Castle, the developing theme of the book is self-sufficiency, which is a topic that emerges many times thought the narrative. For Instance some of the major contributive elements from the story are, how the Walls parents promoted the self-sufficiency of their children, having to learn to protect themselves as well always having each other’s backs. At such a young age these children had to learn that their parents would not always provide and protect them, so they needed to learn to do so on their own.…

Laundry is a daily chore that must be done. I do not know of anyone who enjoys the daily ritual of cleaning clothes but with a few easy steps it does not have to be such a hassle. There is also some pre-planning steps you can take that will save you time and frustration. The first and most important step in the laundry process is to be prepared. Make sure you have all the supplies you need to get the job done before you get started. You will need laundry detergent. You can buy powder or liquid detergent, but I prefer liquid because powder detergent does not always dissolve completely and you can substitute liquid detergent for stain remover in a pinch. You will also need a stain remover, such as Shout, and bleach. Bleach now comes in a color safe version so you can use it on all your clothes, not just whites. I also recommend using a liquid fabric softener in the wash but you will need sheets for the dryer as well. Most washing machines have a place to put it or you can buy a ball that goes in the washer and releases the fabric softener at the right time. Also, you will need a basket for your dirty clothes to go in.. I keep several so I can sort them as they get dirty instead of digging through one basket to get a load. Once you have all your supplies you are ready to start. Depending on what you are washing you will need to adjust the setting on your washer. For example towels can be washed on heavy duty but finer linens such as silks need a more delicate setting. Start the washer and add the detergent and any bleach as the water begins to fill. If you do not already have your laundry separated in baskets, you will need to go through everything to get a load ready. Like colors and fabrics…

After careful thought and consideration, I made the desire to return to school into a realistic goal. I had finally come to the conclusion, that it was time to take control of my circumstances, rather than continue to let my circumstances control me. For the first time in twenty years, I have a window of opportunity to fit a degree program into my daily schedule. Returning to school had always been a desire of mine, but in the past, I did not think I had the time or the money to pursue a degree. I was a single mother, I was working all of the time, my children were very young, and half of my wages went to daycare expenses.…

My name is john. I’m twenty eight, and I would have never thought I was college material. Friends and family thought it was a great idea; they knew I always wanted to become a computer technician and if I haven’t had kids so young and had to work several jobs that I would have became one sooner. My friends and family were very supportive of me in the beginning. My girlfriend thought it was a big step; she said it was going to be a long amazing journey and that she would crack the whip to get me motivated for a change and to make sure I would stay on top of my work like I do to the kids. So with the love and support that I received from family and friends I decided to give college a shot, to become a computer technician. As I made the decision to give college a try my support system became even stronger than ever and everyone accepted their role and responsibility so that I would have time to study and take my exams in a timely matter. But as time progress I suddenly feel the pressure, with being a dad, employee, and a student. It’s hard to study and complete exams when I have to be at cheer practice with my daughter or t-ball practice with my son. Even sometimes when I sit at the computer to complete an exam I’m always interrupted by my kids or girlfriend and have to attend to their needs. Although my courses are online transportation is an issue for the moment. My girlfriend and I share a vehicle, with our work schedules conflicting here’s where it gets confusing. She wakes up 6:30 am to go to school, while I stay home with our 1 year old. Daycare is really expensive, so we save money by her staying home with me. By 1:00 pm my girlfriend arrives back home from school, she then tries to get some rest because she to have to work the night shift. At 2:00 I leave to go to work. Around 7:00 pm I get my dinner break, on that break I rush home to pick my girlfriend up for work and they baby to her grandmothers house. After that I go back to work, then at 11:30…
