Preventing Childhood Obesity Presentation Team
I worked on the young children and obesity presentation team. My team members were Angela Wells, Jenna Sullivan, and Annette Hein. After our team was full Annette asked right away if she could work on a specific part which I was fine with. I then decided to start a post and ask everyone what part they would prefer to work on. Angela then made a post and asked if starting an email would be ok with everyone because that was an easier way for her to be keeping in contact with us all. We were all fine with that and we starting exchanging emails to finalize our parts of the presentation. The part I worked on was defining what childhood obesity is as well as what the impacts to the child are. Jenna researched how to prevent childhood obesity. …show more content…
We also communicated with each other when we had questions. I decided to take on the role of putting our final presentation together. We agreed that the group members would have their parts of the presentation to me by Saturday the 19th so that I could have time to put it all together and work on the general format to make sure it looked cohesive. I thought it was important that everyone have time to see what will be submitted before so that if anyone was unhappy we can make changes. I think we functioned well as a team during this assignment. We tried to keep communicating with each other when we had questions or were unsure about any aspect of the project. We had noticed that we had not heard from Annette for a few days about the project so we made sure to reach out to her again to make sure she was still ok with everything that was happening to which she responded that she was. I think we were all very respectful of each others time and ideas when it came to deadlines. Everyone was very helpful if someone needed clarification on anything which I

There was conflict when group members did not show up at group members ans we felt that not everybody was contributing to their best abilities. One group member did not even bother to have a text book and I as a leader made sure she got a copy of the case. It was in the group’s best interest that she be given a copy. Then we met for the first time not everybody had read the case and it was apparent and frustrating. Then we were rushed for time and we met the professor and only two out of five could meet the professor. Then we cracked the case and not all members were present at every meeting. It was hard to work as a team. Then I decided to host two meetings at home and the last one brought us closer together since we shared some snacks and personal…

I felt comfortable with a verbal plan because everyone did what they said. Next time I think a written plan would have been a better option, in case someone didn’t do their part. The team’s time could have also been better used by staying more focused. We could have told friends that came by we were working on a project, and can’t talk right now. We could have also got multiple sizes of all our materials. This would have allowed us to continuously work on our prototype, instead of waiting for new materials. Lastly, we should have booked a room in the ILC instead of using the common studio space. This would have limited outside distractions, since no other group would be working in the same…

The original stage of team building is the forming stage. In this stage our group was not exactly sure what this project would entail and what work was ahead of us. We were all polite and on our best behavior making contact with the rest of the group. There was a positive and high expectation that we would be successful and develop an outstanding service learning project. In this stage our roles were not clearly defined. This lead to us mostly working independently and gaining an understanding for the project and what to expect for ourselves.…

Also we could have introduced ourselves and our care profession at the start of the meeting and shook one another’s hand showing courtesy and politeness. Other ways which we could of improved it is by not having our coats on and so that we are more comfortable and can move about easily for use of good body language. Another way which we could have improved it in our group would be by sitting in more of a closed circle so that we can hear one another efficiently and can see each other clearly in order to see body language and facial expressions. This will help make communication effective and avoid misinterpretations so that no mistakes in the meeting are made. I feel that I could of improved the way that I acted with the group as I feel that I took a direct approach which made me out to be the main person/leader of the group who was in charge due to be speaking up and setting up the topic for discussion. By speaking up in the group with my opinions this may have made the others in the group shy and they may not feel as confident in expressing their opinions. Therefore I would improve this by making it all equal between one another so that others feel that they are on the same level and can speak up and say what they would like to…

Fundamentally, this academic journal provided vital information on childhood obesity. The linkage between food advertisement and children obesity was concise and conveyed huge issues. Statistics show, that if we can advertise more “healthy” related commercials we can limit obesity challenges. This article is a huge asset to my paper because it exemplifies huge aspects that my paper needs in order to be viable. This team was a temporary team as it was only formed to complete a task. Throughout the task each team member was motivated to contribute to the success of the task. Throughout the task the leadership was excellent as Boris the leader of this task allocated roles as soon as he becomes leader. Firstly we were supposed to choose the leader, Boris got the most votes for being the leader thus he had the responsibility to allocate us our roles immediately. Before producing our slides we were supposed to produce plans so that every person in the team knew what he was doing. The three steps were to; allocate roles in the team, start slides and the…

Childhood obesity is one of the root causes affecting millions of young population today. The health effects related to Childhood Obesity are devastating. At least 70% of obese children between the age groups of 5 to 17 suffer from at least one cardiovascular disease (CDC – 2012). Obese children are prone to pre-diabetic conditions with continued risk of progressive diabetes. However, it is possible to reverse this epidemic if all the healthcare organizations, schools, and communities work together aggressively by formulating a program that promotes strategies and methodologies in battling childhood obesity. These programs educate and assist communities in promoting eating right, exercising, and outdoor activities for living healthy lifestyle. Healthcare organizations, communities, and both private as well as public sectors need to step up in battling childhood obesity (Abigail Arons, Jan 2011). However, such special programs cost significant amount of money, resources, and time.…

One of those was that the library was unable to be the drop off point for the bin, so I had to solve it by asking student services at Seaford Secondary College. Another issue that I came across while working in this group is that the group did not work that well together or separately, even after being allocated jobs. Due to this I ended up writing the group evaluation myself, collecting the evidence and notes to back up our social action. I felt like I was also acting very bossy as I was the one allocated tasks for the other members to do, such as when the group report was being written, the members left it all to the day before the submission date for some to even start and send in their paragraphs. I felt like I was also the leader of the group as I was always sending out emails and asking the members to ensure that they were doing the tasks that they had to do to successfully get complete and contribute to the social…

Abstract. Childhood obesity has become one of the most common health problems facing children in America. Results from the Third National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey reveal that ethnic minority children in the United States are at particular risk for development of cardiovascular disease due to their disproportionate levels of obesity. In treating childhood obesity among ethnic minorities, practitioners need to be mindful of the cultural norms surrounding body size. Additional concerns that must be addressed include the effects of target marketing of unhealthy foods toward ethnic minorities and environmental deterrents to outside physical activities, to name a few. Strategies given to address the problem of childhood obesity among ethnic minorities include, increasing the child's physical activity, reducing television viewing and the adoption and maintenance of healthy lifestyle practices for the entire family.…

Why is childhood obesity increasing so much? Schools play a role in childhood obesity. There are ways to prevent it. I think schools should give healthier lunch, they should ban their high calorie snacks and drinks, and they should have more physical activities. If we don’t start now in a few more years 90 % off all children will become obese. All the unhealthy things that schools provide for children increase their weight. Childhood obesity is a big social issue in America and around the world. So we can change that by getting schools involved. If we get schools involved it will lessen the amount of childhood obesity.…

Oral Presentation: I worked on the oral presentation with most of the same girls from the group quizzes. We first divided the amount of work up equally and created our own individual power point. We then scheduled a night to meet in the library to conjoin our material together. We faced a setback when a team member failed to show up or do her part in the project. The group worked together to make up the missing part, and as a result we all graded each other well on our group evaluations. The downfall of the oral…

As a group we worked very well together, we were very flexible, hard-working and persistent. By respecting our points of view we were able to handle the task at hand very well and by everyone giving their opinions we all helped to augment and solidify ideas presented. As a group we met twice a week, on Tuesdays to assign and delegate tasks to and for one another, we also met on Thursdays to evaluate and get and overall feedback on how everyone was getting along with their tasks. We were very supportive of one another and this motivation in my opinion fuelled our group-work’s completion and success. Our work was very strong because all the group members participated at high capacity. Everyone understood what was required of them and whenever we faced disagreements which are inevitable we approached them…

This project was challenging from the beginning. We had difficulty identifying what we were going to center our project around. Once we got going however we did get a lot of productive work done. I didn’t contribute a large direct contribution to the paper, but I did the introduction and conclusion portions. I also worked closely with Yibo and Bobby to structure their arguments in their portions of the paper. Bobby found my assistance very helpful and him and I constantly worked on revising portions of the paper as we were writing them. Yibo asked for help and we gave him help as well as outlined how his paper should go, but he was unable to structure his part of the paper accordingly. If I were to re-do the project I would have liked to work more closely with Yibo on his part of the paper, and ensured we all cited our work as we went. We got mixed up in a few of our sources and it was a headache to fit them at the end, but we were able to crunch it out at the end. I felt the presentation fell upon my lap for the most part and I would have liked more contributions from the other members as far as setting up the presentation. However I was very grateful that each of the members had their own knowledge about their sections of the paper.…
