Pharmacist Career

I am Maria Khan, a first- semester junior at Farmingdale State College, and I want to become pharmacist .The educational requirement for becoming a pharmacist is to hold a Doctor of Pharmacy degree (Pharm D). Before applying to a pharmacy school, a person should earn a degree in a Bio-science program prior to taking an entrance test (PCAT).After passing this test he/she can apply to a pharmacy school. The school wants pharmacy students to earn a 4 year professional degree and they need to get a license by passing two examinations. Pharmacist could work at many positions including, Community Pharmacists (also known as retail pharmacists), where they dispense medication and answer any question patients may have about the prescription medicine or over the counter medicine. Clinical Pharmacists work in hospitals, clinics and other health care settings where they provide direct patient care. Pharmacist that work in clinics, hospitals, and emergency health centers when they needed can provide patient direct care because they are doctors too. They also check on patients while they are on a round with other physicians and other medical staff. Consultant Pharmacists advise patients about medications and precautions they should take while they are on medication.
