First Aid Training
If you are planning on trekking out into the wilderness, one should have at least basic first aid training. The American Red Cross and the National Safety Council have classes across the country and online. This education applies to everyday life and includes the basics of first aid.
For more advanced training, other organizations have classes suited to the challenges of the wilderness. Classes are provided by:

Being Prepared
Before you head out on a hike or camping trip, it is important to have the proper supplies. Just like you bring food or water, first aid supplies are a necessity. Don’t just bring a box of Band-Aids and think that you’ll be fine. A well-stocked first aid kit that includes a variety of: bandages, over the counter medications, space blanket, and tools, like tweezers and knife or scissors.
Being prepared isn’t just what you bring, it is also important that you don’t venture out when your body isn’t prepared. Don’t put yourself in a dangerous situation because you are not physically able to do the activity you have planned or are ill and think you can just “push” through. Reschedule, or cancel, your trip if you are injured or ill. It is not worth risking your health or life nor should you put others in possible danger as well.
