Introduction

My Personal Project goal is to study how cyber-bullying impacts on B.I.S students and to create awareness among them. Not only am I planning on creating surveys, but I also want to create statistics for B.I.S of the number of people that suffer cyber-bullying. I also want to include the number of people that use networking sites and the number of hours they spend on them. The first time I began to think about a subject for my Personal Project, I wanted to do something related to fashion. I have always liked fashion and I have read a lot about it, so I thought that it would be a good idea for my Personal Project. Personal Project is a quite big and important Project and since we were told that we had the first semester to complete this Project, I knew that I would spend a lot of time working on it. That is the main reason why I really wanted to do my Project on something that interests me because if my topic would have bored me I would not have enjoyed doing this. At the beginning I really liked the idea of ‘How does fashion affect teenagers’. However, I already did a Project on fashion in my old school, so the idea of fashion did not seem very new to me. After brainstorming with my supervisor Frau Schulze and looking at other Personal Project topics that have been done before, I came up with the idea of Cyber-bullying. In 9th grade we read about a Cyber-bullying case called ‘Megan Meier’. Megan was an American teenager who committed suicide by the age of thirteen. The parents found out a year later, that she hung herself because she had been bullied through the social networking website called “MySpace”. [3] Cyber-bullying is very common among teenagers nowadays. Therefore it influences many teenagers and in some cases it may cause such a big impact on them that they might commit suicide. I think that this is a very big problem since so many members of our society are involved. [7] This was the reason why I decided to do my Personal Project on cyber-bullying. After talking to my supervisor, we decided that it would be interesting to see if there is also cyber-bullying at Bonn International School. To find this out, I realized I had to create a questionnaire and carry out a survey to ask the students at Bonn International School about their habits on social networking and whether they have ever suffered cyber-bullying. The Area of Interaction (AOI) this project relates to is ‘Health and Social Education’. I chose to link it to this Area of Interaction because my project shows how I use my knowledge to help others to have healthier lives. Health and Social Education is about how humanity is affected by social issues. My project is about how teenagers are affected by Cyber-bullying, which is clearly considered a social issue. My project is also concerned with physical, social and emotional health. Health and Social Education is related with adolescence, emotions, interpersonal relations, health and respect for others. People that suffer cyber-bullying are normally teenagers who have not been respected by others. What is mental health? [6] When people are underestimated or when they do not get treated right and as a result they loose confidence and respect for themselves. Many think that they are not as...
