“The only thing we have to fear is fear itself” is a phrase that stays true to everyone especially during your freshman year of highschool. When I was fourteen, my baseball team went to a spring showdown baseball tournament. Spring showdowns have always been my favorite type of tournament since I played 10u travel ball. Although now I have a different perspective on these tournaments. On the way home from this particular tournament my face look like a baboons buttocks, with a big red swollen eye that was surrounded by brown and purple bruise. This was from a fouled off baseball, and I will never forget the event or the decisions I had to make. As a freshman I had to learn how to make educated, courageous, and tough life decisions.…

“You did not make the softball team” is a sentence I heard almost invariably. I had just moved to Texas, where I was thrust into a whole new world of sports. Athletes played year round, unlike the north where sport seasons were only six months long because of the cold, likewise, the competition was unlike anything I had ever seen. I tried out for over a dozen teams, from the very best to the very worst and did not make one. Inevitably, there was always a girl who was faster, stronger, and overall better than I was. I was eventually given a choice, to quit softball and pursue another hobby or continue to play softball and refuse to let others beat me. I choose the ladder.…

Many people have had one person who has inspired them. They have changed their life very much the first day that they met. The person who has changed my life in the past couple years was my softball coach. She had us all work as hard as we could everyday. If we didn’t put in our best effort for a drill, she would have us start over and do it again. Coach Tash was motivated, committed, and helpful to everyone on the team.…

As a kid, I always wanted to play professional baseball and live up to my dream to play in the MLB. An experience that has helped to shape my life was an incident I had with a pro-baseball player during the 2012 and 2013 baseball seasons. According to my viewpoint, the conflict started after we were assigned to our respective leagues for that season. I started observing that “the player” (name that I would use to identity and protect the person’s identity) did not want to follow the strength and conditioning program as the rest of his teammates. ‘The player’s” behavior had several implications: one, “the player” could get injured since he was doing what he considered was best. Two, other players thought I had favoritism with "the player" and tried to do the same. And three, I could had lost my job if any team player got injured by not abiding to the program stipulated.…

I was 5 years old ,and I was sitting on my brand new trampoline... my parents then came out and said ,” You wanna try something new like maybe softball. “ I of course said ,”YES!!” The next day I had softball practice and I was scared about there being the mean girls on the team. I knew that there were going to be the girls that thought they were the best. And there was. I had one person help me out and that was my dad and mom helped sometimes. I was scared of playing softball once I got on the field ,because the ball moved so fast coming at me. I have wanted to give up softball many many times ,but I did because my dad would push and get me to get in the yard to practice. I know that I will try more new things in the future. For, instance…

When I first came to Lake Highland I tried out for the girl’s golf team, but I was not experienced or skilled enough to make it on. This was a devastating moment for me, but I realized that I needed to try harder and work harder to make it on the team the next year. I became much more skilled and was able to make the team with ease. What the failure told me was that if I got knocked down then I would have to work hard to get back up. This lesson was very crucial to me my junior year of high school. During the golf season I severely injured my wrist. This injury put me out of the game for six months. I gained arthritis in my wrist, but I remembered what happened to me in seventh grade and worked hard to regain my skills. I made the team the…

I couldn't be more excited to finally play on a girls golf team starting this next Monday! After having three concussions ending my soccer career, my dad came to me and suggested I join the golf team. As a freshman, I joined the boys team at Slinger High School. Most of the guys accepted the idea of a girl playing with them. Many helped me out and treated me like any other teammate, which definitely calmed my nerves for the first few weeks. I competed in almost all the matches. The first few matches were very scary because I got many strange looks from other teams. My teammates were always there for me though. I became so comfortable and by the end of the season I made many friends and accomplished a lot as an individual. I found myself in…

I was so excited. It was my first time playing second base and my first time to show my coach what I could do. The ball was hit to me; and I took my time, fielded it, and threw it to first base. My coach had a smile on his face. He told me after the game, that I did really well and that we would work on being better in…

The whole team was mad but there was no one to be at but ourselves. We stop playing our ball and it cause us to lose the game. That day was an eye opener for me. I learn that day to never get rap up in the glory because anything can taking away in seconds. I learn to always work hard at something you want. If you want something you must go out and handle your business. Once you get to top never stop working keep working and striving to be better. Even if you're the best still push and…

We were dominating after our pep talk from the parents. When we made it out the losers bracket, we had to play the first place team that everyone was talking about the whole tournament. We had to beat them twice because they were undefeated and had to lose two games. The first game was a breeze, we won twelve to three. Then the final game we came out hitting and beat them again like it was nothing, twelve to two. We dog piled on the field, and after we stripped down to our sliding shorts then ran and jumped into the pond behind the center field fence. Winning the world series in a different state was the best baseball experience at the age of fourteen. Since I started playing at such a young age it got me prepared for middle school, in which I played both years. Then came high school, in which the fields were much bigger and bigger crowds. My senior year in high school was a year that I will never forget. I played five different positions, contributing my skills everywhere to help the team out in any way. I was First Team All-District Utility…

I was very excited and happy that all of my hard work in the batting cages and at practice was finally starting to pay off. I knew that I had to remain humble and keep working hard to be successful. My parents have molded me into the person I am today and I knew that I couldn't use this spotlight as an excuse to quit working hard. Our goal as a team was to make it to the state tournament. We ended up losing in the first round of sub-state. Losses and moments like that leave you with a feeling that you never want to feel again. I was determined to work hard to never get that feeling again and I am very excited for what is still to…

When we joined the team, we were put with a friend from band, this kid we didn't know, and somebody from Ally's math class. Things were great over the summer. My band friend, Liam, was very close to me at the time so we would always talk about our ideas but that sort of left us cut off from the rest of the team. Of course I would talk to Ally but it was nowhere near the amount towards Liam.…
