Personal Narrative: Joining The Baseball Team
8:01 AM, I’ve got just enough time to finish the last question on my history homework before the first bell rings. I was weaving my way through the crowd on my way to the library when my friend Josh interrupted my plan. He dragged me over to him saying, “Ty! Ty! I’ve got to tell you something.” Josh explained that he wanted me to join the Baseball team because of the new coach that signed up for the job. Immediately I interrupted saying, “There is a new coach?”. Josh explained that the coach was from a team that went to the state championship a couple years back. He thinks the new coach really going to really help me if I join, because I was not the “best” player last year. “Bzzzzzz” the bell was ringing for class. As I was walking toward first …show more content…
I knew that I had to hit good on this one because if I didn't we would probably lose our last game. As I watch the ball fly out of the pitcher's hand ,it mesmerized me and before I even thought to swing it was already past home plate and I knew what call that would be “strike three, thats game” called the ump. My team never won one game because of me. It was all me, every time, every game. I was up to bat I was always scared of the ball or never paying attention to it. EVERYONE was giving me the stink eye probably saying in their head that Ty blew this one again. **FLASHBACK** This brought back a lot of tough times last year like people making fun of me. If I were to join this year then I would be no match for the other players on the team. After school I told my mom about the new coach and how supposedly good he is. She thought that this coach would make a change on the way I play if I joined, so she is making me stop by the first practice and watch the coach and how he works with the players.
“Time for practice….sort of, I’m just watching” I repeated throughout my

The following morning, I skip bike practice again, but Doris goes anyway. At the office, Megan caters to me. On her way in, she stopped at Trader Joe’s to buy me a protein drink with antioxidants from Trader Joe’s, a bottle of chewable Vitamin C and a whole grain carrot muffin. I drink half the bottle and listen as she tells me, “Thom cancelled the development meeting, since he met with you the other day.”…

It was a chilly morning as the girls showed up to the field. There was a slight breeze, the noise of trees rustling and cleats on concrete filled the player's ears. The smell of hotdogs and hamburgers filled the girl’s noses as they were walking towards the field. They had home field advantage, and everyone knew they always won when they were home. The Infield Diamonds; they were the team to beat. With Julia, their star player at first base; Emily at second base; Hailey at shortstop; Mackenzie at third base;…

Our second game was against the former coach for UNA, Jason Anderson. Coach Anderson was the original coach who offered me a scholarship to UNA. The tension was high, due to familiar faces. We ended up having to play them twice and we beat them both times. After winning all four games we reached the Championship series. Humbolt, from New York, was our biggest obstacle we had to face. The team with the best two out of three wins was to be named the National Champs. The first game we played, we lost to Humbolt. The loss hit us hard and our spirits were down. All season we had not faced a pitcher that shut us down completely. Walking to the locker room after that loss, felt as if we had already became runner up in the Championship series. Beating Humbolt twice the next day, seemed to be an impossible task. We sat in silence as tears ran down our faces. Our coaches let us cry and let us get our emotions out. She knew the pressure we felt and the adversity that was staring us in the face. After 30 minutes of silence, one of the players brought up the games we had to play against UAH. Another player mentioned the victory against Valdosta, and we were instantly reminded that we were capable of anything. We knew that all of the hard work we had put in was not going to waste. We were not going to settle for anything else but a National…

Laurel high school has been the most glamorous of places to play baseball. The grass was scarce, dominated from large patches of dirt scattered across the outfield. Our batting cage left untouched for months at a time, creating a chest high jungle of weeds that consumed you as you entered. There were no perks of playing for the baseball program. The athletic director ignored us, the students didn’t support us, and the School wouldn’t adequately fund us. All we had were ourselves and an insatiable drive to succeed. I entered my freshman year out of shape, and with little baseball talent at all. I arrived at tryouts as an underdog, but I didn’t let that deter me. After three days of intense tryouts, I was named as a member of the junior varsity team. Unfortunately, The season didn’t go…

“GET HOME!!! GET HOME!!!” Those were the words my dad would yell from the third base coach’s box as I passed him rounding third! Baseball to me is more than just a game! Baseball is a passion, fueled by the desire to succeed, the passion to overcome, and the dedication to be great. A baseball field to me is like a stage is to a dancer or an open road for a biker; I just love every aspect of this amazing sport. It’s the field with its seemingly unfair depth, its soft green grass and the infamous red dirt, that make me have the passion for the game like my father did as a child. My life seemed to be limitless when I was in between that fence. Taking cuts on the tee, putting together a pickup game that didn’t matter who won or lost, or even on those days that practice seemed to never end, I still had the love for the game.…

Hi , I’m Lilli Burton . I am in sixth grade, and play baseball with the boys. A barrier i have faced is trying to play baseball because I am a girl. Whenever I try - out , they say “ She would be great at softball.” I face the barrier in Summer and Fall when it is time for baseball. A lot of coaches are sceptical about putting me on their team, but I don’t let that stop me from trying and trying again.Until someone accepts me for who i am. To overcome this barrier , I used integrity by sticking up for my beliefs and not always caring about what people think of me . I also used determination by never giving up and try my best to get better and better everyday. My barriers are similar to Jackie Robinson’s because we both wanted to do something…

In baseball there is an enigma of a pitch called the knuckle ball, which is very difficult for batters to hit because the the ball moves unpredictably in different directions. Often time it feels like life is like trying to hit a home-run off a knuckle ball. When this happens, When life throws us something unexpected we must learn to adapt and respond appropriately.. I learned this when first entering choir as a sophomore with the firm notion that being a bold and strong leader was always the best way to be. Life was about to pitch me a crazy surprise.…

As I stepped outside of the car, I realized how nice of a day it was. It was not the hottest day of the summer. It had to be about 94 degrees, but there was a nice breeze that would make the practice nice. This was only the fourth day of football practice and I was so excited. Today was a defensive day and defense was my favorite. I was always early for practice, I had a lot of time to relax and look at film of the practices before today. It was weird today because I was the only person in the locker room. I couldn’t even find Coach Carty who was always in his office. That wasn’t my problem so I just sat in my locker and listened to some music. Right now I had a great feeling to how the season was going to go. Our team looked good and I thought I was going to get some playing time for the varsity football team. Then Coach Carty walked into the locker room. He was surprised because I was the only player in there. We talked for a little bit about how I was doing this week and what we were going to do this practice. He seemed happy about my performance and I was excited to see what I’ll do this season. As we finished our conversation, more and more players came into the locker room.…
