Personal Narrative: Italy
Imagine riding through the waterways of Venice, Italy, taking in all the beautiful sights and smell of perfectly cooked pasta streaming from numerous waterfront restaurants. If I could be any place in the world right now, this is where I would be found. Italy's rich culture and celebrated history combined with its breathtaking scenery makes it a desired destination for anyone. Some of the main reasons why I would like to be there is to find out more about my family history and see the many worthwhile sights that scatter this vast country as well as eating a delectable five course meal of the best Italian food in the world.

My family history has and always will be very important to me. Therefore, I would like to be in Italy to get a broader perspective on where my family came from and what it took for them to get to America. My family on both my mother and father's sides heil from Italy, which would undoubtedly make my search a long one. My quest for a deeper understanding of my family will take me to both northern Italy, where my mother's family comes from, and souther Italy, which is where my father's family comes from. To be able to see, first hand, the life that previous generations of my family lived is something I have always wanted to do.

I would love to make trips to famous sites and take tours that delve deep into the Italian culture. Italy has wide range and variety of landscapes, all beautiful in their own respect. Places such as the Leaning Tower of Piza and the aforementioned Venice could keep me busy for hours on end. Viewing the world from a different cultures perspective is something I have always wanted to do, and being in Italy would allow me to fulfill

Until I have friends in Prague and Budapest, I would go to Eastern Europe next. While I had time, I would stay in Eastern Europe for two months, INCORRECTand I would go to Russia and China afterward. After I had done that,; I would go to a south sea island like Tahiti. (I remember how lovely the country looked in paintings by Paul Gauguin.) My next stop would be Japan. If I could travel to any place other than locust valley, I would probably want to go somewhere in Europe. I would want to go somewhere in Europe because i think it would be a good experience to go somewhere where the people don’t live the same way we do. Also, if I were able to go to Europe, I would have the opportunity to see some of my extended family from Ireland and Italy that I never get the chance to see. Another reason I would want to go to Europe is because I want to see some of the famous landmarks the countries hold. If I went I would want to see landmarks such as the leaning tower of Pisa in Italy, the Eiffel tower in France, and the Colosseum in Italy. Also, if I were to go to Europe I would want to go to Switzerland or Italy to go skiing. I would want to go skiing in the Alps because I have heard its one of the best places to ski in the world. Another reason I want to go to Europe is to try different types of food from different countries. Some food I want to try is pizza from Italy, and escargot from France. Also, If I went to Europe and visited Italy I would try to pick up as much Italian as a possibly could because my grandparents are from Italy and speak Italian so if I learned the language I could speak fluent Italian with them which I think would be pretty cool. Therefore, if I could visit any place other than locust valley, I would go to Europe for various…

I grew up knowing of my dad and his family but I have never actually met him because my mom raised me as a single mom. One of the things that has always been part of that is knowing that he is Italian and I carry that in my blood but know nothing of it and the culture. Going to Milan would be a chance to explore, learn, and discover that side of me and who I am as a person. Also this is a great way to travel with a support system but at the same time not depending on my family like I have done before when I travel with them. I love how this trip will be with people I know and that I will feel safe but at the same time learning how to travel on my own.…

    Living in Italy

Upon my arriving in Italy I realized I was stepping into an unknown culture. However, after a few weeks of living in Italy I began to fall in love with the language and even though I often fail at speaking the language, I continue to try and become fluent. There is the simplistic cuisine; the wine, the climate, the history, the architecture, the emphasis on family, the generosity of friends, and more generally: the carefree approach “to” life- whereby Italy measures success in humanist rather than fiscal terms, priding itself on the taste of the pasta rather than the efficiency of their work.…

Italy might be the world’s most celebrated tourist destination, but it only became a unified state in 1861, and as a result Italians often feel more loyalty to their region than to the nation as a whole – something manifest in its different cuisines, dialects, landscapes and often varying standards of living. However, if there is a single national Italian characteristic, it’s to embrace life to the full – in the hundreds of local festivals taking place across the country on any given day to celebrate a saint or the local harvest; in the importance placed on good food; in the obsession with clothes and image; and in the daily ritual of the collective evening stroll or passeggiata – a sociable affair celebrated by young and old alike in every town and village across the country.…

We left from PR on a Saturday morning, next stop was NY City. At the airport we got chill at some bar and get ready for a lot of hours in a flight. At the airplane, as usual, we where boring, watching a lot of movies, eating bad food, and desperate to get at our destination. Finally, at Venice! Once we got there we take a bus that leave us close to the hotel, but like good puertorricans, we don’t read or look at the map to see where was the exact location of the hotel. We walked for almost 2 hours to see where was the hotel. After walking under the rain and freezing we decided to ask where was our hotel. It was close to the bus station, only 5 minutes walking!!! We do the check in and took a little nap. I was so tire because of the flight. Every day we wake up at 8:00 a.m. to enjoyed the breakfast and after that walked all day to see the different museums and places in Venice. After a few day eating pasta and drinking wine I was looking forward to our next place, Florence! At Florence we walked like the ironman race, a lot of miles to get to our destiny. It was the first time I used a train, a really fast train! It was awesome! We enjoyed the view of the place, the wineries, the houses, everything was pretty. When we where at Florence it was Easter celebration, we saw all the Catholic rituals and it was amazing to see all the people getting together to celebrated that holiday, a lot of people celebrating the same. As usual, we walked a lot every day. In the last day at Florence we got a reservation at Tito’s Restaurant to taste a Bistecca Florentina, it was a piece of meat almost raw, so bloody and red, I can’t eat it, but the owner was very…

My trip to Italy had many bright things, especially great foods, now I am not saying all we ate was italian food, actually we ate quite a lot of different food there. In Italy, there was some American food, we actually ate at an Italian McDonald’s like 2 or 3 times. I would not have thought that they would have had because it American. We also had pasta, pizza, and even gelato. Gelato is an Italian form of ice cream, but it is more a mix of like an american frozen yogurt with ice cream. It is like soft serve ice cream that you might get from this one company called Nitro Freeze. The sites that I saw with my family on our trip to Milan were amazing. We saw many beautiful, modern, fashion sites of Milan. After all, we came to our hotel, and just relaxed by lying in our beds. But my mother and sister, they said that they feel themselves good, and went to have a shopping. Moreover, I was watching tv with my father, after my sister and mum had gone. But we do not understand anything, because of Italian language, we do not know it.…
