People Centered Management
[Reference: Bold italic taken from TRAVELERS.COM]
How do the seven people-centered practices of successful companies apply to this organization?

As during discussion of “managing People” in an organization, we learnt that to get results there are some important practices needed for people-centered organizations.
Travelers has been practicing them to achieve their goal and to improve OB.

Careful hiring
Travelers have well defined criteria to hire good talent that provides appropriate fit to the requirement of company. As they claim,

“Though our Talent Acquisition Consultants search our database for appropriate candidates, the only way to ensure that we know of your interest in a particular position is if you apply for it directly.
Our pre-employment screen includes a drug test and background check”

Once one is selected they say,

“Before your start date, complete Section 1 of the electronic I-9 form discussed in the Welcome email sent to you from Travelers. The I-9 form, required by the Federal government, establishes your identity and eligibility to work in the United States. Please bring your proper identification with you on your first day of employment so that this form can be completed. You will also need to bring your signed Principles of Employment, which can be found in the Welcome packet.”

Consider diversity when hiring,
“We hire a diverse workforce to reflect the communities in which we do business.”

Job Security:
At travelers.com, did not find much on job security (as I browsed) However I can say that a company who survived for almost a century must be in good standing for providing job security and would have some procedure and programs for that.
Other than the site (TRAVELERS.COM) when I was trying to find some material on job security I found an interesting survey and would like to share with. Not necessarily every one will agree with. This was made among the travelers employees. See below.

One of my service users was an elderly lady who was diagnosed with risk of DVT, carers visited in the morning and a evening visit to administer medication, Mary was a lovely lady who always wanted to make you a cup of tea and biscuits, her house was spotless and she took great pride in it, even still cleaning the windows inside herself at 89yrs old, Mary was a devout catholic and visited church twice a week, she had a great sense of humour and we always had a good chat on my visits. Mary visited the hospital quite frequently and district nurses visited on a weekly basis to renew dressings on her legs, due to DVT’s, she had no hearing problems and could read the Bolton news without spectacles, after I had been visiting Mary for about 12 months, I noticed that she was becoming more forgetful and although she could remember everything about her childhood, her short term memory was getting worse.…

Mr. Thomas Delong and Mr. Michael Brookshire paper assesses the costs and benefits of pursuing diversity. They reviewed the primary barriers to creating diverse workplaces and propose options for companies’ interest in pursuing diversity in their organization. The fundamental reason for embracing diversity is the perspective on discrimination and diversity. Discrimination is an act or pattern of acts that affects the individual. Diversity is an attribute of an organization’s culture that has an impact on the entire organization. First of all, discrimination is easier to assess because discrimination laws seek only to determine whether an individual has been treated inequitably because of his or her demographic category. Diversity is a broader concept having to do with the overall climate of an organization and its composition of mixed constituents. It is important to note that discrimination in hiring generally precludes diversity, however, lack of diversity does not necessarily indicate discrimination.…

Treat everyone as an individual and making them informed of choices is the best person centred approach. People with dementia may still be able to choose what they would like to wear and make choices like what they would like to eat or what they would like to do on a certain day but some individuals may struggle or find it difficult, so we could advice and help the client or give them the available choices so they could maybe answer with yes or no.…

Diversity has many faces that range from gender, culture, ethnicity, race, economic status, physical abilities, and many more, and this can be a problem that can affect many people who are employed or looking for employment in society because they are being judged or discriminated against for their differences. But if business took the time to understand the importance of differences in people so many doors could open for the employers and employees. Allowing diversity in the workplace could increase work morale, attendance, customers, and efficiency and create a less stressful environment for employees. This is possible by first increasing the diversity in the workplace and allowing for employees to learn about each other’s differences and…

There are numerous theories that can be used together to make an efficient therapist and provide results for the clients. The person centered theory is designed to focus on humanism, human potential, conditions of worth, orgasmic valuing, the fully functioning person, and phenomenological perspective (Seligman & Reichenberg, 2010). There are three core values in the person centered theory, these are extremely important in the output of clinician-client relationships and facilitating change for positive results in the client. Looking at the therapy universally, these core values can be connected to several other types of strategies and theories to hold a positive outcome for the therapist and client. The value of these aspects across all treatment approaches adds significant changes in a client’s attitude and behavior along with positive thoughts of hope. Theory and therapeutic strategy all leads into client care and outcome. There has been an increasing need of therapists and therapeutic strategy to accommodate the client and their mental health disorders. The existential therapy model will be discussed throughout the paper to distinguish whether psychological dysfunction exists. However, the core values of person centered therapy, assessing the values among all treatment approaches, and figuring whether psychological dysfunction exists in the existential therapy all will be further examined.…

Group therapy or psychotherapy in the United States, has a long history that dates back into the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. During this time the America was being bombarded by masses of immigrants. Most of these immigrants settled in large cities. Organizations such as Hull House in Chicago were founded to assist them in adjusting to life in the United States. Known as settlement houses, these agencies helped immigrant groups lobby for better housing, working conditions, and recreational facilities. These early social work groups valued group participation, the democratic process, and personal growth (Kaplan, 1998). Eventually these groups began meeting in prisons, mental hospitals, and public assistance agencies; and that is what we now know as the beginning of early group therapy, in which one or more therapists treat a small group of clients together as a group. Group therapy varies from the one on one therapeutic relationship between therapist and patient to additional individuals in the session to assist with individual growth and problem solving.…
