Peggy Orenstein Social Media Analysis
Social media have been a great tool that we are able to use. Some people think that technology and social media are pushing us further apart. For example, Peggy Orenstein in “I Tweet, Therefore I am” she wrote “ The expansion of our digital universe- Second Life, Facebook, Myspace, Twitter- has shifted not only how we spend our time but also how we construct identity”(253). Peggy Orenstein is saying that technology and mostly social media is controlling our life. I also think that technology and social media is controlling our life in a way but also choose to use it.
I think that social media is not letting us enjoy our lives. “ It was the quintessential summer moment, and a year ago, I would have been fully present for it. But instead, a

I think that Peggy Orenstein”s question is great to ask people on social media. I think that they just need to see what they are missing. And the only way is for them to put their phone down and just enjoy things themselves. There is always time for them to express themselves on social media but it doesn't have to be every second of every day.
I think that social media isn’t all bad because it does help us stay connected with loved ones that live far or we don’t always get to see. Social media lets us share our little moments of our life with people all over the world including love ones. For example if your whole family goes on a vacation and you take a picture or a video you can share it with your family. But we also have to check that we are not on our social media all the time.
Social media isn’t a bad or anti social thing we just have to know when enough is enough or when to just cherish the moment and know that we don’t have to share them with everyone else. “The fun of Twitter and, I suspect, its draw for millions of people, is its infinite potential for connection, as well as its opportunity for self-expression”(Orenstein

In today’s society we are dependent on social media for information. Social media gives us a feeling of being connected, even when we don’t even know the person we are reading about. The information passed through Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, MySpace comes to us uncensored and can evolve rather quickly. Many companies use tools like Facebook, to reach their customers. People are on Facebook twenty four hours of the day, seven days of the week no matter what is going on. One of the reason that websites like Facebook have become such in inter part of our lives is our cell phones give us the ability to connect with people, places and things…

Since 1997, people have been using social media, however, it became a trend around 2003 to 2005. Nowadays, different forms of social media are incorporated into the millennial generation and their lives are preoccupied with it. In Peggy Orenstein’s “The Way We Live Now: I Tweet, Therefore I Am,” she asserts social media has overtaken people’s lives through personal and social reality. Orenstein speculates social media wastes people’s time, causes people to be unable to identify between their personal and private lives, and ruins relationships.…

“Closer to people I’m far away from, but maybe farther from the people I’m close enough to” (Rose, 613) This short post perfectly sums up social media. Written by the author of the article, Josh Rose’s friend, he explains his feeling on the revolution of the internet. Josh Rose himself believes that the social media movement has brought forth positive changes. His examples not only include his friend who was able to reach people from far away but his son who is now able to have those daily mundane talks without having to see his father day to day. Rose also brings up information about a post he recently viewed on Facebook, the headline reading “In China, microblogs finding abducted kids” in which he states that their form of social media was able to save children as young as the age of six from their abductors. Rose explains that people fall into three…

In The Twitter Trap, Bill Keller argues that these new forms of media are “eroding characteristics that are essentially human: our ability to reflect, our pursuit of meaning, genuine empathy, and a sense of community.” He sees social media as aggressive distractions an attempt of contemplation. In many ways he may be right, but technology has a lot of benefits as well. Although advances in technology threaten the way we absorb and understand information, we must learn to incorporate the changes and use them to our advantage.…

    Social Media Controversy

I believe social media is normally a good thing, but can also be used to harm or harass people. In some cases social media has been known to link long lost family members that either didn’t know existed or just fell out of touch with. On the other hand social media has been known to spread hate, and this is where I believe most of the controversy about social media comes from. On the very radical side social media has been used to recruit gang and isis members, but even though this happens, it is not very common at all. Another controversy about social media is cyber bullying. I do not believe in cyber bullying, because if you are getting made fun or harassed on social media, you can always just turn off your phone, computer, or go somewhere…

I don’t think the impact of social media is neutral at least not anymore; anyone can go only and bash you for no apparent and the sad thing about this is it could be because they don’t like your look and just plain hateful because of envy. Too many creeps are lurking around the corner not only to deceive adults but most importantly the juveniles. Yes, social media it is a wonderful platform to connect with one another; especially your loved ones, but it can also be hindering one from socializing outside of it. Some us are now lazy, find it difficult to create a tangible relationships and friendships with people around us because we are accustomed to just sitting there and instead of going out. The funny things a lot of people have hundreds,…

The first reason that social networking is bad for society is that it makes people lazy and overweight. About two decades ago, when people were bored, they would go outside and do something. You could go ride a bike, take your dog for a walk, play a round of baseball, or hit the gym and exercise. Nowadays, many people just go on their phones and “tweet” about how bored they or scroll through a friends new pictures and click the “like” button a few times. Sure, social networking might give you something “to do,” but really, you aren’t doing anything! Especially in American society, where the obesity rate has…

In today’s society one of the main ways we as humans communicate is through social networks. Social Networks such as Twitter or Facebook serve as a new and exciting way to interact over the internet and socialize. Now a day people rarely text or call due to new innovative ways such as the internet to connect with people all around the world. Individuals who are pro Social Networks would say that they promote positive ways to interact and meet new people. They would also say how exciting they are and how much of a thrill they can provide. However they fail to recognize the dangers that also come along with them. Due to all that is going on in the world anti-social network believers would say that social networks cause more harm than good due to the fact that they lead to harmful internet dating, are an excuse for people to spread rumors without being confronted, and are dangerous due to people oversharing information which can lead to unsafe internet stalkers or in person stalkers. I 100% agree with each of these three reasons, which is why I believe social Networks do cause more harm than good to society.…

Do you ever think social connection is bad or good? Do you think about how it is helpful and harmful it is? When I hear about social networks, I think it is helpful. This is because when I see Facebook I see my mom posting new ads for her shop trying to get more business so we can do fun things together. Or I also see my dad calling my Antie Keke, so we can talk to all of our family in cousins all the way in Alexander City, Alabama. When I talk about using the web I talk about it mostly in a good way. Yea people think that social networks are bad with the "Oh My Gosh Taijsha Trump just tweet another tweet about how other Countries are Crap hole!?". Also this is one of the good ways that is good we can see opera talking about how she gave an…

In discussions of technology, one controversial issue has been whether social media brings people together or tears them apart. On one hand, social media argues that it has brought people together because it lets you talk to whoever you want whenever you want all around the world. On the other hand, social media brings us apart because it is not letting you talk to someone face to face, therefore they might be lying about who they are. Also, it makes common day relationships more stressful than they have to be. Others even maintain that social media is unnecessary . My own view is that social media is nothing but bad news.…
