The Dr. Paulino J. Garcia Memorial Research and Medical Center (Dr. PJGMRMC) is an established and yet growing hospital. However, come with the expansions through enabling acts and how the organization grows in an ever changing environment come also challenges and issues the hospital has to face. Among these issues are improving their nurses over all service performance. In government hospitals, the nurse to patient ratio is quite out of hand. Tendencies, nurses will always end up being put in high stress level situations and end up being overworked. But a major concern in government hospitals just like Dr. PJGMRMC is that even though they know some issues that must be addressed, most of the time they don’t have the means to deliver them. In this case, it would have been an easy solution to just hire more nurses or pay them more or give them more benefits to encourage them to work harder. But just like as mentioned above, government organizations rely on set variables and must work with only to is given to them. Our task then is analyze these issues where we can apply organizational behaviour approaches and be able to propose and recommend concrete alternative actions and strategies the hospital can implement to improve the welfare of their nursing service in terms of commitment and motivation. Through surveys, results will show that majority of nurse respondents react highly to intrinsic rewards. Therefore, the potential for possible actions were seen because recommendations intrinsically based will let us work outside the limitations of the organizations thus giving us more options to look at to which are all realistic and highly possible. And since motivation and commitment are somehow connected, the group sees the possibility of improving the nurses’ emotional attachment to the organization by improving aspects of motivations. An example of a recommendation that is setting a feedback mechanism that will allow nurses to assess their performances on a daily basis. There is a lot of space for improvements and the group is proposing various small ways that can greatly affect the organization in the long run.
Chapter I: Organization Overview
The study aims to apply Organizational behavior and its principles in order to develop the workforce and create value to the company. The study utilizes this field of study in order to define problems, analyze and discuss data through the use of instruments such as interviews and surveys, as well as to arrive to recommendations and conclusions intended to improve company operations. It sheds light on human behavior and human relationship that are crucial just as much as technical skills to achieve effective and efficient completion of tasks. The paper intends to focus on tackling commitment and motivation concerns of the hospital’s employees concurred from the use of instruments such as interviews from various hospital officers and organizational commitment questionnaire involving affective, normative and continuous aspects of commitment. The paper also evaluates the response of employees to motivational orientations which can either be extrinsic or intrinsic and their turnover intent. The paper comes up with several resolutions on the issues concerned through the guidance of theories such as Expectancy theory and the Goal-Setting theory came up with a better understanding on how the company could make key adjustments and decisions to ensure job motivation and commitment by their workforce who adds most value to the company and its success.
