Opportunity In The Military
Opportunity may mean little to some, however for others it can mean everything. The opportunity to live a new life, the opportunity to thrive, or the opportunity to survive. An Opportunity is can be a door to something better; a chance at something of value. For many people in life an opportunity is all that they are searching for, and it is often a key part of their success. Countless people join the military or pursue a career with no guarantees of success, but the chance to better themselves or put themselves in a situation where it is possible to succeed. With opportunity comes a chance to succeed and that could be an significant turning point in someone’s life.

The military can be seen as a great opportunity for someone that is from a small town where they might not otherwise get the chance to travel or be exposed to different people. The military gives people the chance to be able exposed to diversity or learn a trade as well as many other experiences that opens up doors for them in the civilian world. Several opportunities have arisen for 13-year-old Zoey Richardson because she is the daughter of an active duty Army Air Traffic Controller. In this excerpt from the (find the title) trade journal Zoey said “We went to a lot of countries. We went to Spain. We went to Italy twice, we went to a whole bunch of little places I can't even name. It was pretty awesome." This was the header in a Baltimore Sun newspaper “After starting the day with a chance to clinch a playoff berth with a win and secure the division title with a victory and a Cincinnati Bengals loss to the San Diego Chargers, the Ravens watched their divisional lead shrink to two games over the Steelers and Bengals, who also won.” (Zrebiec). The aforementioned statement is a perfect example of an opportunity given, but not having a guarantee of success. The Baltimore Ravens had the opportunity to clinch their playoff spot, but they lost. This proves that not all opportunities have a happy ending.
The two examples given in the paper demonstrated that opportunity is not a guarantee to succeed. The chance for success draws many people in. However, the uncertainty of success scares many away due to a fear of failure. An opportunity can be all someone needs to enhance their way of life. The chance at a better life is what is so appealing about the military to numerous
