Odysseus Is A Hero
Odysseus was a hero because, he was a very good man. Odysseus is a hero because when no one believed he would return home, he came back safe and alive. He promised he would make it back and he did.

Odysseus is a hero because, he tried his hardest to keep his men as safe as possible. He often times put his men before himself. But sometimes his men didn’t want to listen to him and wound up in a lot of trouble. In The Odyssey, Odysseus told his men not to take and kill helios’s cattle, but they didn't. Helios said “even though you may yourself escape, you will return late, in bad shape, after losing all your men.”

Also in The Odyssey , Odysseus tried to help in his bad situations When his men said things they shouldn't have, or done things they shouldn’t have. Odysseus did as much as he could all the time. This shows Odysseus is a hero because When him and his men were in the cave of the cyclops, his men were eating and drinking all his food. Odysseus was joining them in this but when the cyclops came in he got mad and wanted to eat all of his men and not let any of them go. Not even Odysseus himself who called himself no man to the cyclops. The Cyclops said “Then i will eat all No man’s companions before no man himself. I will

Odysseus was no hero and his words and actions clearly show. Book 1 of the Odyssey starts with “Sing in the, Muse, and through me tell the story of that man skilled in all ways of contending”. Introducing Odysseus as “a man skilled in all ways of contending” shows Homer, author of the Odyssey clearly wanted Odysseus to be seen as a hero. After all, they were both Greek, and the Greeks held a lot of pride they needed to protect. This makes me believe that the story behind The Odyssey was twisted so that the reader was forced to see from the perspective the author wanted.…

Odysseus is an Epic hero because he showed intellect, fortitude, and wisdom. Odysseus was a very cleaver and intelligent he knew when to attack and when to hold back. If Odysseus and his men would have killed Cyclops I his cave they would died as well because there was a bolder in the exit of the cave (book 9 lines 289-295). Odysseus told Cyclops that his name was nobody to trick the other Cyclopes into thinking that there was nothing wrong. (Book 9 lines 360-362).…

Odysseus was a leader who would sacrifice anything for his crew just like when he put the spike into the cyclops eye as it said "Just so that his eyeball hissed around the spike." (P.768). Which explained his courageous act against the cyclops. There was other signs of courage for example, when he sacrificed himself for the crews safety agains the Sirens "They tied me up, plumb amidship, back to the mast." (P.784). Which is another sign of courage and shows how much of a hero Odysseus really is.…

In “The Odyssey”, Odysseus is a hero because of how he got all the suitors out of the house. I believe that he is a hero for that because of the way that they just moved in and tried to marry his wife. Also that they were eating all of his animals fruit and other things also that they were drinking all of his wine. They were also mean to his servants and to son which made him mad at them. Then when he came they did not know and they were treating him like that he was nothing and that he should die. So that is the reason why he had to kill all of the suitors.…

A hero would not be thought of today as thinking of people as less than them. This shows the hubris of Odysseus, another detrimental feature of the King of Ithaca. His ego and pride are a huge flaw in his character which often can also lead to the death of his friends. On the island of the cyclops he would not leave the cave of Polyphemus even though it looked dangerous until he “saw him, saw what gifts he’d give” (Book 9, line 260) and even though it appropriate to arrogantly “set our hands on the cheeses” and “eat the bulk ourselves and [settle] down inside” (Book 9, line 260). This excessive entitlement leads to many of Odysseus’ men being slaughtered by the giant when even a soldier of Odysseus’ had suggested they take the food and leave rather than risking being killed, which Odysseus ignores. Another flaw of Odysseus is his infidelity to Penelope. While she waits loyally for Odysseus to come back he sleeps around with both Circe and Calypso. He makes it sound like he was forced to sleep with Calypso “since the nymph no longer pleased” (Book 5, line 170) but it is in fact shown that he at some time wanted to based on…

Odysseus is not a modern day hero because he tricked his men into thinking that he has logos. He convinced his men to be as brave as he is when they were going to fight through scylla. He does this because he knew he whould not get eaten while his men whould. as shown in this quote he gives his men ethos to get them ready “Well, I walked up and down from bow to stern, trying to put heart into them, standing over every oarsmen, saying gently, have we ever been in danger before this.” after he told them this they went to scylla and fought. Odysseus also has bravery when he stabbed the cyclops in his eye, he told him that his name is nobody to trick him. he also disguised his men as sheep so that they could get out of the cave. But one reason that is…
