Odysseus is a hero because, he tried his hardest to keep his men as safe as possible. He often times put his men before himself. But sometimes his men didn’t want to listen to him and wound up in a lot of trouble. In The Odyssey, Odysseus told his men not to take and kill helios’s cattle, but they didn't. Helios said “even though you may yourself escape, you will return late, in bad shape, after losing all your men.”
Also in The Odyssey , Odysseus tried to help in his bad situations When his men said things they shouldn't have, or done things they shouldn’t have. Odysseus did as much as he could all the time. This shows Odysseus is a hero because When him and his men were in the cave of the cyclops, his men were eating and drinking all his food. Odysseus was joining them in this but when the cyclops came in he got mad and wanted to eat all of his men and not let any of them go. Odysseus came home disguised an old beggar. His swineherd, knew he was home but he didn’t let him tell anyone because he wanted it to be a secret so he could kill them all. Penelope wanted the suitors to string Odysseus’s bow, and shoot an arrow through the tops of 12 exes. None of the suitors could do it, so Odysseus who is disguised as the beggar takes the box, strings it, and shoots the arrow through all 12 axes. After that he is no longer disguised as a beggar, he is back to looking like himself.
