Odysseus Character Analysis
Truthful, loyal, born leaders, and honesty. These are all the characteristics of a real life hero. Odysseus has features almost similar to real life heroes. Real life heroes save lives and help people which is exactly what Odysseus did. Odysseus represents a strong hero because he was a great leader, he had a smart mind, and he was very brave. A sign of Odysseus's leadership is when he was facing the heard ships from the Cattle of the Sun God. He knew that they had eaten the cattle so he said "I withdrew to the interior to pray the gods, for hope." (P.789) This shows that he knew that his men had messed up so he decided to help them by praying to the gods which shows that he tried to help his men. Another sign of leadership is when he sacrificed himself to keep his men safe. "I carried the wax along the line , and laid it thick into their ears." (P.784) This shows how much he cares about his men and how he will sacrifice himself for his crew. Odysseus is very crafty as well, he finds ways to trick his opponents in ways …show more content…
Odysseus was a leader who would sacrifice anything for his crew just like when he put the spike into the cyclops eye as it said "Just so that his eyeball hissed around the spike." (P.768). Which explained his courageous act against the cyclops. There was other signs of courage for example, when he sacrificed himself for the crews safety agains the Sirens "They tied me up, plumb amidship, back to the mast." (P.784). Which is another sign of courage and shows how much of a hero Odysseus really is. Odysseus is a hero because he had many traits that represented a hero, such as a great leader,a smart mind, and he was very brave. Real heroes represent these same character traits which shows that Odysseus was a great hero. Odysseus went through many hardships with his crew but like every hero he found a way to get out of the struggle and he executed the plan and arrived home
