EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

With the breakthrough of ‘Globalization’ in this modern era, the need for OD and HR managers to understand the importance of integrating as one to maintain organization’s competitive edge has become an inevitable task. The challenge is exacerbated by the increasing complexity of the work environment and the fast changing advancements of technology. Proper studying and understanding is needed and the managers need to take up this challenge seriously in order for the organization to perform well.

The researcher has studied the specified case and has attempted to provide a critical analysis and emphasis on the importance of the topic. In doing so, the report is segmented into subdivisions to guide the reader throughout the discussion. Firstly, there is an introduction of the integration of HR and OD, followed by key headings which the researcher deems important to highlight the theory behind the needs for integrating OD and HR in an organization.

The key headings are: Roles of OD and HR in attracting and retaining staff. Firstly it touches on the importance of attracting and retaining the right and good staff. Secondly what are the challenges faced in attracting and retaining staff and lastly, the report emphasizes on ways to attract and retain staff.

Conclusion is also included in the report. It is a must to give the reader a clear understanding of the issues that are surrounding the case study to provide recommendations as to why integrating OD and HR together is crucial to the future of 21st century organizations.

1.0 INTRODUCTION

The Research Problem

The purpose of this report examines the role of OD and HR in attracting and retaining staff. The topic was researched and broken down into main headings with a discussion strengthen by references from credible authors. It gives the readers a clear and understandable overview of the importance of understanding the role of OD and HR in attracting and retaining staff.

Limitations of the Report

The report has been done to highlight the importance of the roles of OD and HR in attracting and retaining staff in an Organisation. However, there were other topics that are needed to be clarified by the researched to substantiate the relevance of the roles of OD and HR in attracting and retaining staff and their importance to management today. As limited information was given in the topic of the roles of OD and HR in attracting and retaining staff in an Organisation, the researcher has endeavored to limit the report to the areas which were considered of high importance.

The Sources and Methods of Data Collection

All research material used has been sourced from accredited authors. The National Library (Singapore) and associated journal database and the web were used to source the material and thirteen references were used.

The Report Organisation

The report is illustrated in accordance with the unit outline given. There is an introduction, followed by the discussion section outlining the key headings that relate to the topic. The report is then concluded with conclusion and references to validate the researcher’s points.
