One organization that I’m involved at Goucher College is the Futuro Latino Learning center (FLLC). This program provides opportunities specifically to the Latino community of Baltimore County. The students of Goucher College teach classes and there is ESL and basic computer training. Students are not only helping the Latino community but they get the opportunity to speak Spanish and improve their language skills. In my first year of college I helped with teaching a class; I was the assistant tutor. Now this year I am helping out with the children program playtime and cultural program. While the adults are taking their classes they drop off their children. This program provides a safe space and for children to learn about their culture and speak…

In this community there are a growing percentage of high school students who are dropping out. There are many reasons for this alarming trend in our community some being economical and others are based on the socioeconomic status of the population in general. Due to the depressed economy, many local companies are moving to other areas in an attempt to maintain competitive economic incentives for employees. When this happens, property taxes which support funding for high school programs has diminished in the last few years, resulting in the loss of qualified teachers and no funds to hire new positions. This has in turned left high school students feeling lost and hopeless with no hope of having a better quality of life. This is where the proposal for the organization I will be directing comes in.…

Bolman & Deal (2013) state, “organizations are coalitions of different individuals and interest groups”. The school district is governed by members of the school board. These citizens elected from their community make decisions about educational programs based on community needs, values, and expectations. The board is responsible for putting the interest of students above all other measures. The responsibility of hiring a superintendent is bestowed upon the board of trustees. Once the board decides on a superintendent they can then start the hiring process of principals for a school. Administrators are responsible for running the day to day operations in the school. They will hire department heads that will be in charge of teachers for each subject. The department heads are in charge of their educational teams and ensure all standards of the school are being met. Some teachers on my campus feel there is too much pressure put on them by our campus administrators, which is an area of conflict. These teachers feel there is too much emphasis being put on them to have students pass common assessments and standardized tests. Administration is being pressured to have high test scores and this is being…

The public school system, as it exists today, consists of the government distributing federal funds and local property taxes to a public school based on the student population. This system succeeds in many aspects by providing a free education to all American citizens, allowing public schools to have materials and curriculums that financially challenged families could not afford. More than just education, the public school system supports various organizations and clubs based on personal interest and career tracks, allowing the student to access preparation necessary for the occupation they plan to pursue. But, as in any complex form of governmental funding, the current system of dispersing educational funding has significant need for reformation. Under the present program, a certain…

Schools have policies and procedures so that the governors, staff, parents and others who are involved with the running of the school, are able to work from a set of guidelines which are followed by all, which gives clear comprehensive consistency.
