NHL Board Of Governors Essay
The NHL Board of Governors is the ruling and governing body of the NHL, and each team in the league is a member. The NHL Board of Governors aims to establish the policies of the National Hockey League, uphold its constitution and monitor any changes to the game in North America.
The Board of Governors is an advisory board to the Board of Regents, the College's policy-making body. The Board is comprised of popularly elected Governors who implement national projects and initiatives at the chapter level and represent member concerns at the national level.

The National Hockey League Players' Association or NHLPA is the union for professional hockey players in the National Hockey League. Created in 1967, the union negotiates and enforces fair terms and conditions of employment for NHL players.
The members of each NHL club elect a Club Player Representative and an Alternative Club Player Representative. Each Club Player Representative serves as a voting member of the NHLPA Executive …show more content…
The NHLPA acknowledges the legacy work undertaken in the 1950s by the first Players Association President, Ted Lindsay, and helped establish the NHL Alumni to represent the rights of hockey’s greatest family: its retired players.     The day the color barrier was broken in hockey. Although it was only two games it was O’ree’s time to shine. The Boston Bruins were down a man and needed a left wing so they looked at their farm team. A farm team is the minor league team that will make up the new NHL team. They saw that Willie was the best player on the farm team. Boston was playing the Montreal Canadiens. After the two games he played with Boston he went back down the minors. After a gap of about three years, Willie was drafted by Boston to play with them for half of a season. In the forty three games he played he had about twenty six penalty minutes. Most of them were because he was discriminated against, so he had a lot of fighting minutes. Willie scored his first NHL goal in the season of 1960-61 against the Montreal Canadiens. Don’t get confused that is also the team he played against in his first NHL game. After the half season he played with the Bruins, he went back down to the minor league and ended his hockey career with the San Diego Mariners in 1978-79. After his hockey career, Willie was offered to be the director of youth development for its diversity task force. The NHL/USA Hockey Diversity Task Force is a non-profit program for children that encourages kids to learn and play hockey together.…

    The 2012 NHL lockout began on September 15th, 2012 because of an ongoing labor dispute on the expiration of the NHL’s collective bargaining agreement. The lockout began less than a month earlier to the scheduled beginning of the 2012–13 NHL season. The owners confirmed a lockout of the members of the National Hockey League Players ' Association after a new agreement could not be met before their deadline. The NHL 2012-13 is the 96th season. It was scheduled to begin on October 11, 2012 but is currently delayed, and as a result a total of 326 games have been canceled. The 2013 NHL Winter Classic was scheduled to feature the Detroit Red Wings hosting the Toronto Maple Leafs at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, Michigan, but it was canceled due to the labor lockout. The season is schedule to resume on December 1, 2012 and end on April 13, 2013 as a shortened season with only a total of 999 games to be played. The issues at hand for the owners are the wishes to reduce the players share of 57% hockey related revenues, introduce term limits on contracts, eliminate salary arbitration, and change free agency rules. The offers introduced by the unions have focused on increased revenue sharing between owners and a fixed salary cap that is not linked to league revenues. As the deadline for a work stoppage approached, the union challenged the league 's ability to lock out players of three Canadian teams – the Edmonton Oilers, the Calgary Flames, and the Montreal Canadians. Since Gary Bettman became NHL Commissioner in 1993, this has been the fourth lockout in the 19 years.
